    Lonely Pea Hen

We recently moved to some acreage and were stunned to find three pea fowl (2 males 1 female) roaming wild with a flock of wild turkeys. Its been a rough winter and both males are gone leaving the female alone with the turkeys. When there were three, the turkeys were just fine with the pea fowl...

    1st broody hen

Well, for my hen, I think I'll wait it out or see if my friend has any eggs she needs hatched! I have had to physically pick her up twice today and put her in with the main food and water. She eats and drinks like a maniac when I do. I just feel bad for her that this is all in vain. She doesn't...

    1st broody hen

Ok, thanks! Seems like she's being normal then. From my research on broody hens it could take weeks for her to break?

    1st broody hen

So, this is a first for us. We have 4 chickens. No rooster. Only one hen old enough to lay. She usually lays one egg every day for 3 days then takes a day off. She hasn't left her nesting box for days except an occasional drink/food. We had to argue with her for 2 or 3 of her eggs and now no...

Thanks everyone! I guess I don't really care what breed, just curious how big she might get! Thrilled she's most likely a pullet! Super sweet girl! ;)

She is to die for! my heart will break on this one if she turns out to be a roo! Everything says pullet to me, just wanted confirmation from others. We just had to get rid of a 'pullet'we purchased that started sprouting fantastic tail and crowing at 20 weeks-very disappointing.

    new hen is a bully!

Last night our pullet 'Ginger' sat on the roost with a chick under each wing! She is very sweet to them! The new hen, Lucy, is doing better today so far. Letting them down to scratch around in the run. I'll give it more time. I did wonder if I was rushing things or expecting too much too soon.

    new hen is a bully!

I get it. I'm just concerned with #1 is she not happy with us. Or friend said she was an absolute sweetheart. And #2 the pullet and two chicks are so much younger than her. There's no one challenging her authority, why is she actively going after them?

    new hen is a bully!

Maybe I'm rushing things? A have a young pullet (17/18 weeks) and two chicks (not sure gender yet) who get along great! Our neighbor purchased the mother of our pullet sane time we did. He had trouble with her getting picked on so bad and said she's such a SWEET thing he wanted to get her out...

    love-struck pullet depressed?

It was pretty sad putting everyone to bed tonight. :( I had to go out and lead them through their routine of goingup on the roost for a while then into the coop for the night. Ginger kept peeking her head out the door looking for him. Never thought I'd want to cry over a hen and rooster!

    love-struck pullet depressed?

Sorry, totally forgot to mention we have two younger chicks who she gets along fine with and her own mother. But she LOVED that rooster! My Mom and I agreed if she wasn't doing well, we'd move he up by him. :(

    love-struck pullet depressed?

A few weeks ago we purchased two pullets from a farm. They were BEST FRIENDS! always together, eat, sleep, scratching.......then turns out one is a rooster. We can't keep him in our neighborhood so my Mom is taking him. Our little hen doesn't function without him. if they are separated she...
