Hen Possibly Egg-Bound, Should I use Duramycin?

Hi, Justine is actually looking a lot better! She goes out in the vegetable garden with the other chickens to root around, and she is holding her tail feathers high and generally looking very perky. She even laid a very large egg the other day, her first in a few weeks! I haven't gotten the...

Hen Possibly Egg-Bound, Should I use Duramycin?

Thought I would give a everyone an little update. I did keep Justine in the bathroom for a couple days with the Duramycin in her water. After the first full day in there, she was very lively and she was feasting herself on watermelon, mealworms, etc. Since she had improved so much, I decided to...

    Ewww rats in the run

You can buy closure strips for that. They're just wooden pieces cut with the same wave of the roofing, so they fit together snugly. That would be my suggestion, but it might be hard to install them without taking the roof apart.

Hen Possibly Egg-Bound, Should I use Duramycin?

Thank you both for your responses. I will start the Duramycin in her drinking water, hopefully she will drink it. She did have some normal-ish to runny looking poops in her crate over night, which I will take as a positive sign. None of my hens have ever been wormed. I am fairly sure that she...

Hen Possibly Egg-Bound, Should I use Duramycin?

Hi, I have a sick EE hen. Her name is Justine, and she is about 1.5 years old. She has not been laying for about 2 weeks, maybe more, but she was otherwise normal, so I just thought it was due to a molt (her plumage has been looking rather scraggly lately, granted some of that is due to an...

Pekin experts- can a young Pekin fly?!!

It is interesting that you guys are saying he looks like a mallard. A customer brought him in to my work (I work at a farm store) and the story was that he was found in the pond at the Nike campus, and a mallard hen was trying to drown him. He had a little scrape on his head, but seemed fine...

Pekin experts- can a young Pekin fly?!!

I got him at the end of April (as a tiny yellow fuzzy duckling, no more than a couple days old) so he is maybe 10 or 11 weeks. I am pretty sure he is a boy, because his voice is very raspy and kind of wispery. He seems to be around 4 lbs when I pick him up. He was raised in the brooder with my...

Pekin experts- can a young Pekin fly?!!

Hi, I have a young white drake (about 2.5 months). He was rescued from a pond as a baby, so I'm not positive on what his breed is, but I was pretty dang sure he was a Pekin until yesterday. He was allowed to run around our fenced yard for the first time, and to our surprise he took flight and...
