Thanks! that's what I was looking for - If "ideal" is around 55 degrees then I should be fine. I put them on a shelf in the egg turner so they're being turned properly. They did go up to about 65 during the day so they are going up and down probably 15 degrees or so...
I've done quite a few hatches so I've begun staggering the hatch with 2 incubators now.
My question is this - I usually keep the egg turner inside as I gather the eggs over 3 or 4 days before I put them in the incubator. I'm wondering if leaving them in the garage is ok instead of inside the...
I've always had food and water inside the coop. I have the main food and water outside the coop but I have some pvc feeders and hanging nipple waterers inside the coop. What if they want a midnight snack?
I didn't know there people against food and water in the coop. I like having both because...
I had a momma this last spring and she did great. I separated her and the babies from the flock to keep the little ones safer. I kept her with the little ones until they were able to be outside without her warmth. Then I moved her back to the flock and raised the babies up and added them in...
I just did this - It's a little warmer here, but the general consensus was to wait until around 8-10 weeks to incorporate. So if they can stand the temps I'd say now is a good time to let them get to know each other before integrating.
I keep mine in a covered area so it's never wet and it never has any moisture problems. It's inside my run too so no critters can get it... Except maybe bugs...
Thanks for the replies! I've done the separation barrier before... it kind of worked but the young ones just toughed it out in the main flock and never really went back inside the barrier.
I think I'll try letting them free range together a few nights then see how they act. That should tell if...
I've done this a few times, but usually the birds were a bit older when we added new members to the flock.
We have a flock of about 17 - only about half have molted but all are laying eggs so they're not super old but they have established a pecking order.
I have 17 that I hatched out and...
If you have the room I would use one of these. I made two of these and they are currently feeding 20 birds no problem. Once filled they will hold 60 - 75 pounds of feed. I only fill mine maybe once a month. If you have 8 birds this would feed 6 at a time and last a long time.
Just FYI I've made 4 or 5 of these and never used silicon around it. Mine are in a covered area tho. Maybe this is for a water barrier? Otherwise if you cut the hole right it'll never come out
I got them as Ameraucana from Ideal Poultry ... After reading the sight it says:
Ameraucanas, known as the "Easter Egg Breed", are a multicolored breed. They have beards, muffs and a normal tail with a tail head. They are often incorrectly called Araucanas, which have ear tuffs, are rumpless...
good info -
I had a few extra roosters when I had these chicks... now I only have one that was sold as an ameraucana from a hatchery - is he a mix or pure?

Both white again - hard to tell apart - I think #5 on the left and #6 on the right:
I'm pretty sure #2 is crowing so I'm thinking rooster on that one.
They are 10 weeks old. What do you guys think?
