I have always feed my chickens Purina Flock Raiser. I keep a separate dish of oyster shell next to the feeder. Its worked for the hens, roosters, toddler chicks. I only had one hen that had thin shells, she didn't lay many eggs either. I believe that is just her genetics.
Hello, Just wondering if it would be ok to let my 2 - 5 week old chicks to start flock raiser feed that my mixed flock eat. My experienced broody hen, Luna, has them out and about with her since they were about 5 days old. Should I continue with chick starter?
Thanks in advance.
I'm running late this year! Are you out of stock of these calendars? I just tried to order, along with several other items.
The View Cart/Checkout screens is marked ~Products marked with *** are not available in the desired quantity or not in stock!
I will be disappointed if I'm too late...
Thank you for the measurements for the corid powder.
I have 1 chick that seems to have this cocci. She's got very little energy, having trouble standing & doesn't have any balance. She is breathing fast too. Hopefully this is what she has and its not too late.
Poor little thing :(
I have 2 lavender orpingtons, Thelma & Louise) & 1 Black orpington (Suzy), all hatched together.
The 2 lavenders took forever...about 26-28 weeks before I even saw them sitting in a nestbox. The black orpington laid her first egg about 4-6 weeks before that.
It took alot of patience...that's...
I use Purina Flock Raiser for all my chickens. I have 2 broody hens that raised chicks in the same coop & used medicated chick starter for awhile for babies & mama hen.
Put out a separate bowl of oyster shells for the hens. They know if they need it. The rest of the chickens just ignore it...
JJ, I'm so sorry, I just found your post about BJ. I'm in tears...
I loved the pictures you posted of BJ in happier days. I loved reading your stories over the years.
Thank God for Jill...she is a true angel Those pictures...Ellie looks like she will be just fine!
Its good that...
During a molt, your chicken's bodies are working very hard to re-build their feathers. But also, their bodies are rebuilding their stores of calcium and other nutrients for eggs and health.
Give them extra protein, yogurt (plain) and other healthy treats to help your chickens.
My hens...
I know how you feel too! I haven't really had any eggs in a couple of months. I have 11 hens & 3 pullets.
2 buff orpington hens were raising a total of 4 chicks, but those chicks are now 3 months old & on thier own.
1 hen is the only one laying 1 egg every other day. The other BO hasn't...
The chickens are really pretty smart. I have a separate bowl of oyster shell for the hens that want it...and they just know!
Some hens just need more calcium than other hens.
The boys and the younger chicks may look at it and peck at it, but don't really eat it.
Good luck, keep us updated !!!
