Ive always gone by the standard of hearing 1/4 cup of feed per bird per day. Mine free range and I supplement with fermented feed in the summer and mash in the winter months
I insulated my coop with rockwool batting as my area temps get down to -40 for a week or two every winter. I love it! i keep a vent cracked for all moisture the birds make but no breeze and they all do great. I still have a bit of a problem with them getting tips of their comb froze occasionally...
I live in the north and that being said our winters can have temps -40 for a week or two max, but average -20 to -30 celcius. is that too cold of a range to keep peafowl? they either could live in a 8x8 insulated building alone, or in one with chickens and guinea hens. I think I know the answer...
Howdy all,
I saw there were some pheasant hatching eggs for sale near me but was unsure of one thing; can i keep my pheasants with chickens and Guinea?
Ive often heard the amount of calcium in commercial feed (mine being 4.24%) is too much for them. The roosters as you state need much much less. I ask this as my homemade feed is 0.11%
Howdy all,
I was wondering if anyone has documentation on the min required calcium content needed for a hen 19+ weeks old, as well as a 19+ week old rooster. all i can find is this meme and the book they are claiming to reference is nearly 200 bucks
Having problems i have a chick that was clicking when it breathed. That seem to have subsided but it has no strenght in the legs to move. Given electrolytes and b12. What can ibdo???
I have a chance to have 12 quail eggs hatch for me for free, but have one main question. How cold hardy are they? I live in north western Ontario Canada and in the winter the temps drop to -40 often. Can they handle it like my Rhode islands and other chickens?
Howdy y'all,
Last summer I was reading some where that they recommend that mucovies get the 22-24% protein to be healthy. Is that correct of can they stay on a16% like chickens
Howdy all I'm having troubles finding any of my old threads. It's like everything I've asked has disappeared. How do i find it so I can look back at advice
One person has the following
Cracked corn

Soy bean meal
Black oil sunflower seed
Wheat
Nowwhen I enter it into nutritional program it comes up 0ui for both and d. Basically could you not grind up vitamin pills and add them
I have also seen people on the other hand feed just grains and their chickens were the healthiest and live a long time.
On the other hand pre mixed feed chicken were sick and lots didn't live as long
