    Post your pics here!!!

How old are they there? I am brand new to geese and I'm curious to know when feathers start. I'm beginning to think they're like goldfish - give them a bigger home and they grow fast. I got Henry, Kate and Anne out of the guinea pig cage into my brooder box (the meatie chicks had outgrown it)...

    Post your pics here!!!

This is Henry and one of the girls - Katherine and Anne. They were one day old here, are now 8 days old and getting soooo big! Embdens, apparently 2 female, 1 male (bless the hatchery!) based on size and coloring - the two smaller had greyish backs and the big one is pure yellow. Now they...

Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

My new coop is in the framing stage and I just called my DH to tell him this is what we are doing! It's 8 x 12, and the front 4 ft will be storage of food and now PDZ! I cleaned the coop (deep litter) this week and ugh! Our roosts were afterthoughts and it's hard to get around them with the...

    Do hens fight Roosters?

I've seen mine doing it, especially with the junior roosters. They get cheeky and the hen will turn on them and fluff up their hackles and look just like a rooster fighting. The roo generally backs off pretty quickly.

What do you know about composting?!

I have two bins. One was made from pallets last year, filled with chicken poop shavings and kitchen and garden scraps, and is now wonderful rich compost. The other was compost last year and was emptied out (it's old lumber that is crumbling in places but still contains the composting...

    Neighbors dog

Our neighbor's dog came by the day after Christmas and killed 10 of my layers. Came back 2 weeks later and killed a couple more. They had been keeping him in, but a friend of the son's came by and let the dog out and he came back in a flash. A couple weeks ago he was let loose again and came...

    Geese and dogs

I have an Aussie and a Border Collie/Husky mix. When I first got the chickens a few years ago, they were both 4. They have always been very interested in chicks, and when I let the first batch of chicks out' for their first run in the grass, I left them alone for a moment. When I returned, I...

Early candling vs. hatch rate question

I purchased a lot of mixed Orpington (blue, buff, black and splash) eggs online and set them in the incubator 4 days ago. Because I just had to know what was going on, this being my first time and all, I decided to candle the eggs. Of the 14 eggs, 2 are clear (one buff and one black). The...

    What gender r my chickens?

Your Buff looks like a roo to me. One of the barred rocks as well (though I don't have any of those so don't know for sure, but the big red comb and wattles seem to say). The Aracaunas all look like pullets.

Eggs classified as HAZMAT by PO

My post guy was embarrassed, too. I took to calling instead of driving into town. i've let the eggs settle and am preparing to put them under my broody hens. I marked my eggs from the arrivals, so I'll know who's who. I'm just hoping for the best now.

More snow here. Just got up and getting ready to go out and feed the chickens. I talk to mine, too. With a bunch of Buffs, I find naming them hard since I can't tell who's who, but they are the Ladies and kids and chooks and chicky snoodles, etc. I always greet them because they always...
