No eyes or stuck shut? What's your opinion?

And now both eyes! I thought I was going to build a ground level coop and make new accommodations but it looks like she's going to be able to see fine. The others have stopped picking on her also. Thanks all for the help.

No eyes or stuck shut? What's your opinion?

She can see!!! After gentle massage with a wet q tip and applying antibiotic, hedgehog the chicken opened an eye! She was still catching flak from her 3 sisters, so she is quarantined for now. She is sad by herself, but it's better than being pecked at, the other girls seem to like the...

No eyes or stuck shut? What's your opinion?

Thanks for the tips. We swapped with warm water on a q-tip, one "eye" was very sensitive. We'll apply neosporin tonight and look for some eye cream tomorrow.

No eyes or stuck shut? What's your opinion?

I just brought home 4 chicks, and didn't notice this poor little thing can't see until after I got them all set up. She can find the water just fine, has found the food too. I'm not sure if her eyes are stuck shut or if she doesn't have any. I did try to wipe with a warm, damp cloth, but I...

    How old are my chicks?

I've looked a bit, but obviously not enough! I'm still learning and I suppose still have a lot to learn.

    How old are my chicks?

I like those ideas! I think I'll be splitting them after a couple of weeks, so I'll have to try that out. The ducks can dip their whole bill in the water now, probably part of their head too.

    How old are my chicks?

Also, the ducks like to splash already, so wet sand is more tolerable to the chicks and ducks than wet pine shavings, less likely to mold also. I've raised up the water, but they still manage to splash around some!

    How old are my chicks?

I've also discovered if I sneak up on them I can see them running around and playing. If I watch over them then they group together. If the "giant hand" enters their world they lay down and group together, and it takes 5 minutes of sitting back in silence to get them to venture out again...

    Ventilation critique?

Sorry, it is hard for me to explain. Yes, it's like a lid. There's a gap between the top of the walls and the roof to allow air flow on all sides. It's also set up on a hinge so I can lift the roof to access the inside. I've stopped being lazy and attached a picture.

    Ventilation critique?

I have a metal roof, but it's framed out with 1x4's which drop over the sides so that the roof frame and the walls overlap by about 3", as the roof is raised over the walls about 1" to provide ventilation. While not impervious to rain, it'd have to be driving from the side pretty hard in order...

    How old are my chicks?

I turned on the baseboard heating in the room and found a 100w bulb, so they're not sitting in the upper 80s. On the advice of people on the forum, I've replaced the pine shavings with sand and took out the medicated chick food (since they're sharing with ducks). They've been going from...

    How old are my chicks?

I'll try again, technical glitches! I was sucked in at TSC to getting some chicks and ducks. I mistakenly bought the 250w heat lamp bulb, and their inactivity told me that was all wrong. I've swapped it to a 60w, and now they're all happy. Given that the temp in the brooder is only low 70s...

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

After a 5 month wait, I finally found my first egg, not even in the nest box, just on the ground in the run. When I bought the chickens they were supposedly laying already, so it has been a lot of patience on my part!
