Crushed up a niacin pill and added it and activated charcoal to starter crumbles and liquid B12 complex and nutri-drench to electrolyte water. She wolved down the food
No idea. She seems to have plenty of energy just can't walk. Put her into a container of water to try and strengthen her legs and she moves her hocks but both feet are all curled up and doesn't move so no more hydro therapy it seems.
From the link alot like the Epsom salt treatment
Thank you for the links and information. She has lost use of both feet and just shuffles. I'm thinking botulism now from reading online. Start adding charcoal to her feed?
I found her outside the nesting area and she looked bad and I wasn't sure if she would survive. I isolated her by herself and noticed she wasn't putting any weight on one leg.
She was standing on the lame foot with her healthy foot. Now she keeps it mostly tucked behind her. I noticed that she...
I inherited a chicken house and run. I had the brilliant idea of securing the top of the run with pvc and deer netting to keep out hawks because it rarely snows heavily here...
Flashforward to the blizzard of December 2018 and no more netting.
The run is about 35x35 with a gabeled coop in the...
I had about 28 2 month old chicks and a hawk got into the partially covered run(fully covered now) and killed 4 bantams. I have 11 Brahmas, 9 Easter Eggers and 4 bantams remaining.
I had planned to let them free range in an open pasture when they get to be adults, but I guess that is out unless...
Thanks for the tips. I thought it was older, but saw fresh droppings in addition to gnawing through a closed tupperware lid to get into what was inside(pig treats). I have these in the horse barn where there is also droppings and haven't gotten lucky...
I have a "new" large walk in coop that is elevated(1 foot off ground) and rather nice with wired electrical outlets and lights. It is completely inside a chicken run, but connected to an unused hog pen on one side.
It hasn't been used in years and I have new chicks going in there in a few...
That's good to hear. I still think that the container is a little small and was going to get a kiddie pool for them. I was going to move them to the unheated garage with a heat lamp as well before they go to the coop and run, but will wait until they are about 4 weeks.
Ordered 30 chicks online and they shipped 33 just in case.
All of them made it. However, lost 2 within a few days. The first one was found wedged behind the shipping container and was barely responsive with pasty butt. She lasted a few hours after I found her, cleaned her up and got some water...
The previous owner said there were coyotes and deer several years ago but hasn't seen any since. There are also 2 chickens that flew the coop and have been fending for themselves for a year so I'm guessing the bugs are plentiful. I'm more concerned with hawks and birds of prey.
It's outside of...
I just acquired a large sunny pasture that was used for horses and cows. It might be used for that in the future so I wanted to plant something that would be kind of universal for the chickens and farm animals that would be coming later.
We have 30 chicks on the way(all females), some bantam...
I have been a lurker for several months now and thought it was time to join as I have greatly enjoyed reading the posts.
I just moved into a house recently and have always been a firm proponent of eating healthy and buy organic whenever possible...so yeah...mmm fresh eggs
My next door neighbor...
Looks like Cleveland is using chickens to help with flys in the outfield:
