Hello everyone
I had a question I would like to ask. One of my hens has gone broody. I didn't believe her and took the eggs away, but she was determined, and I hadn't the heart to take them away again, so she has been sitting for two weeks. I put another next box in the coop, and the other...
I had reserved some chicks at the feedstore, assuming my usual hatch. I am thinking now that I should cancel that, rather than mix an unknown in with my chicks. I am just so flabbergasted that they hatched.
I am so thrilled. 6 of my 7 eggs have hatched. The seventh has an active pip.
This is so different than my previous hatches where I was lucky to get one live chick.
All the thoughts and advice of the various people who have private messaged me trying to help me figure it out seems to...
Wow - that is an amazing hatch from shipping eggs!
My cat is currently stalking the brooder that has two fluffy, adorable chicks in there. They have pecked at food and found the ecoglow. In the incubator, another chick (one of the potential olive eggers) is drying out. The soccer damage/pip...
Second pip is beginning to zip! Third pip/soccer damage was rolled over with pip facing down. Don't know if it will make it. Fourth pip - one of the marans/CCL's that I am hoping will be olive eggers!
Squee - maybe this chick will get a sibling or two!!!!!
Awww, but some just hatch faster. And the Saturday ones aren't even due yet. That's what I am telling myself about the potential olive egger eggs, anyway. Nothing from them so far.
C'mon, chickies!
I would like to announce my resignation from the "Set on Saturday, No Signs of Hatching" club.
I have a pip, a beautiful pip right in the big end of the blue egg!
*Note to self for future hatches: remember to place eggs with big end out at lockdown. I keep having to resist opening the incubator to flip them around so that I can see the (hopefully) pips sooner.
c'mon chickies
(yes, I know they aren't even due for another day. I still keep checking...
I get up, go stare at the incubator, and the eggs are just being eggs.
I think I see a wiggle, but it could be just a trick, and the eggs are just sitting there.
I imagine I hear faint clicking, synchronized waves of it, and the eggs are just sitting there.
I believe I may be obsessing myself...
My incubator won't hold temp during lockdown. It seemed to be doing fine at 99.5, but once the humidity went up , the temp dropped to 95/96. I keep upping the temp setting, but I am very concerned it's going to suddenly start holding temp and will be spiked and cook the eggs. I *think* it's...
