Hopefully, this will help. My experience with mites and viewing others' blogs: they can have a scaly leg mite, my rooster appeared to have this symptom. My chickens nesting boxes are pine and that did not help--removed it. I'm thinking about drying lavender and putting it in the nesting boxes. I have been battling mites for almost 2 weeks! Advice: Get a Rooster!
I agree! 1 of my initial 4 (95% sexed as hens) chicks became a rooster. Thankfully, I was able to keep him. Now that he has matured he sends out warning calls when he sees incoming hawks-we have a lot. He used to "threaten me" and did peck me once. I tried various methods to stop this...- Trumanda
