I just processed a couple extra roosters tonight and both of them had white kidneys. They were rather swollen as well. Why? Is it hyperuricemia or gout? if so what caused it? The other organs looks healthy and normal so far as I could tell.
Also They free range and I feed them layer pellets...
I think its acting pretty hennish the more I'm watching it. And comparatively the comb and wattle coloring isn't as dark as many of my others that came sexed as females. THis is my 4th go with this hatchery and I've had about an 80% sexing accuracy rate I'd say. Apparently this was one of the...
I bet the chicks you bought had been subject to over exposure when the store got them. Wasn't there a winter storm about that long ago? I bet they were stuck in shipping...
I had something similar to this come through my shipped chicks. It started on the day out of the box and carried on through the first 10 days. They died exactly the same way. It wasn't Merricks though. I found out it was from being starved during shipping. They couldn't rebound from it...
Okay. I love this idea. I had been planning to get some rain barrels and gutters for our barn shed so I could water calves from the rainwater and not have to lug it up the hill. This saves having to go in and do anything, really. haha. Awesome.
Oooh! I looks so official and nice! Very well done!!
I love the idea of the chickens eventually making it into the gardens. What a space saver this whole unit is! Well done!
Just to clarify, too, obviously these breeders, ethically, owe your friend a puppy. And I think its really crappy that they did this. I didn't want to sound like I was in favor of the breeders.
once the contract is completed its no longer binding. its hard to know what was in the contract, usually there is some sort of health clause giving so many days before there is a refund given. If you're within that time span then, yes, there would be a refund demanded by the contract and small...
Hi all. I brood with pellets. I prefer them to shavings. I've never tried sand- though I am considering it.
I'm going to start doing this more frequently as I'll be selling birds in higher volume- I've brooded this way about 6-7 times now and it works great for me. The problem is though that...
left to right, front to back. That's my order on EVERYTHING from cereal boxes to spices to the sock drawer. Left to right. front to back. Every egg carton, every day. Shift the eggs to the right, and where there's a break in the line, the oldest goes up front. So you're always using the eggs...
Weird...

*edited because sometimes I can't read and post things that make no sense because I'm awesome like that*
I leave my lamp on for all chicks 24/7 until they are 6-7 weeks old. They move out of the heat when they are hot. That way any chicks I add will be okay. I've never put nearly 3 week old chicks with new babies though. That might be too big an age gap. Watch them close.
