Leghorn and what breed is the other?

Funny, one of my older hens is from Meyers hatchery. I asked for a Blue Andalusian and got amore white than splash with blue legs. I wish we has a reliable hatchery here in Northeastern Kentucky. I dont go to TSC for anything, and the only other place to go is Rural King. There I can pick which...

Leghorn and what breed is the other?

Good question. None of my white hens lay white eggs. But they lay various shades of very light blue, green and cream.

What do you wish you knew before you built your coop and run?

My coop is 11' x 23'. No problem with space or standing up here. BUT I wish we had put a wood floor in, as when we have torrential downpours, the floor get very muddy with puddles and the pine shavings don't soak it up. I dislike having to shovel it all out , and pray it will dry enough to put...

    What breed are these pullets?

I was getting 12 broiler chicks at our local Rural King. Apparently the salesperson gave me these 3 chicks that were definately NOT broilers. I put them with a Cochin broody and this is what they grew to be so far. They have no wattles or combs, and yellow legs They are 11 weeks old in these photos.

What does it mean when hen lays egg in run?

I have chickens that either lay in the dusting tire or the ground next to it,or in the pellet feed dish. Why? I have no idea. All are healthy. I will say that they were hen raised and do not like people. I also have 3 new hen raised pullets that roost on the inside structure of the nesting...

    Chickens don't want to roost

I have1 set of chickens that are approx 20 months old. They are finally roosting but lay their eggs in weird places on the floor. My new pullets are 6 1/2 weeks old and they roost above the nesting box on the end where the structure called for 2x4's. I have to add that both sets were raised by...

    dustbathing.... what to use?

I use First Saturday Lime and mix it with wood ash if I have it. They love it. I have it in the coop which is 20'x 12', and the only downside is that it covers everything with a fine powder. It is NOT bad if inhaled, but I think I will move it out to the run in, which is covered with a roof. I...
