The lump in her breast is most likely her crop. Feel the lump and you should be able to feel the feed and maybe mushy from water. Does her head and mouth smell bad? If it is could be sour crop. If it is hard feels like a solid mass, impacted crop and unable to eat as it is partially blocked can...
After drinking a bunch of water a chicken can have water flow back out of mouth by putting its head down or from pressure on the crop. They can't control keeping things contained in the crop it can come back up and interfer with breathing causing them to gag or cough to clear the airway. Some...
To seperate my chickens that need observation, recovery time I use a large dog crate in the coop so they can see the others. I have chicken wire that isn't good for fencing as a dog can chew through it, I make a small enclosure in the run or coop held up by small posts to make a temporary...
That looks like one of our EE girls when she was a baby! She had chubby lil legs and feet as she got bigger she grew into them
I have some roving yarn that felts up when washed, I may have to try something like this with it as a project.
I am getting into knitting after a very long time. I have been practicing my stitches to get the tension and hang of it down by making arm warmers. Just tubes after sewn together on sides after I get to the right length. So far made a few pairs for my Sister and I.
I was a beginner so back to...
Well I learned how to candle, even the EE and BO eggs can be hard to tell. But figured out the some that aren't fertile weren't dark like the fertile eggs. I also accidentally dropped one I thought was fertile and it was. Felt so bad seeing the yolk sac and the developing eyes.
I marked her...
Runny green poo means she isn't eating enough or ate ALOT of greens. You may need to make her eat, even tube feeding her. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/805728/go-team-tube-feeding
Go get Corid or Amprol and treat Cocci, your birds are the right age for it to "bloom" it can kill fast...
I wrap mine up in an old towel when I have to do anything around the head. Just don't wrap so tight you interfer with breathing. Sticking her head under a faucet could have her aspirate water throgh nostrils or mouth, they can't control breathing like we do.
Otherwise I agree with Eggcessive.
Sorry for your loss!
Did you do a check over of the dead birds, see any drainage from mouth, butt, strange swelling on them? Was there any signs of injury, blood around vents? A home autopsy or sent out for necropsy can give you the cause of death. How old are they?
Look over their feed...
Yup that a punky blue kote chicken, bit early for Halloween may be normal color by then. Glad she is better. :)
When I have to spray a tricky small area, I use a paperplate, spray a puddle on the plate and apply it with qtips. On chicks I spray a papertowel and squish the towel on the chick's...
I have been ill for nearly 2weeks with severe bronchitis, a friend has been feeding watering them for me. She finally told me today the one hen has always been in the box and won't let her get eggs.
I go out to check and sure enough she is setting on eggs, growls when you touch her, indignant...
Flour sprinkled on it will help it clot. Cover eyes and spray the injury with bluekote. She will have a bluish purple comb but will cover up blood and wound. Seperate her but in the coop in a dog crate so she hopefully won't lose place in pecking order and get harassed more when returned into...
Ok, the smell if she also has Vent Gleet will be strong smell yeasty also sticky from whitish to a yellow. Hinney may look wet from clumpy feathers. One of my girls who had a severe case had a swollen abdomen from gleet. When she tried to lay they were rubbery would break as she strained and...
Have you checked her over from beak to tail to check for mites/lice? I need a magnifying glass to see the smaller ones on the skin. This can be a cause for dry skin and feather loss. Lack of weight gain as the lil suckers are draining her dry.
IF she has either, dust her with Sevin under...
If her bottom is swollen up it will make it appear as if there is feather loss as skin stretches making the feather follicles further apart. Internal laying or water belly (ascites) like previous poster says are serious.
In her poo do you see anything that looks like cooked egg, hard yellowish...
She sounds like the way my Buff Orpingtons acted when we had 100+ heat this summer. Here is what I did for my chickens.
Made wet spots, that they used to dust bathe, they did that more in heat. They also scratched these spots down to make themselves cool holes.
Set out a shallow pan, was a new...
Hi Chuck!
Sorry you are having problems. Ok when the girls got the bath was it for lice/mites with medication for it or just a clean up of dirty girls? What did you use?
The Bantam have you checked inside her vent to feel for egg that she may be having a problem passing? Massage gently...
Aww poor Cruella, we have a BO named that and she deserves the name.
I agree with Eggcessive. Other things to try is honey, on a gloved finger gently rub it on the prolapse and inside the vent. Work it back inside and hold it there as long as possible with the gloved hand. It helps keep it...
Like us sometimes it takes a bit for injuries to be noticeable. Check for bruising, can look green under the skin. Check her abdomen for any hardness and if she is in discomfort while you are checking. I watch the pupils sometimes they dilate and constrict fast when in pain. No sign of blood...
Welcome to BYC!
Blue legs?! That sounds horrible. How old are the girls, breed, and if possible pictures of them and the legs to help see the problem. Will be very helpful. The type of feed, are they free range? Are they still drinking eating on their own? If not do a search on the thread "go...
