    Possum Trap Idea

Caught another one last night, the biggest one yet. Used apple slices, it worked. How many more can there be?? Thanks to these monsters we are down to only three chickens, 2 hens and good old Crooked Toe, our rooster.

    Possum Trap Idea

We caught two using Bologna. Sadly they killed several of our chickens before we caught them. Vicious little things!

How to keep wild birds from eating all my chickens' food?

The big Owl didn't work. The hanging CD's don't work. These sparrows are relentless! They totally invade my chicken coop, especially at night. I've gone out and checked for holes, etc. but my problem is I like for the hens to have freedom into the garden area, which leaves our door open. And...

How do I introduce several chickens (not chicks) to my flock

When we picked them up I noticed they did have a very large hanging feeder. Unfortunately we never thought of asking if we could have it. This one is a smaller feeder. But you know, I'm going to try that out. Thanks for the suggestion. On a side note, I've been looking at a bunch of home...

How do I introduce several chickens (not chicks) to my flock

Update: Tomorrow night will be one week since we got the new chickens. I may be worrying too much - and I'm sure there is an adjustment period of time, but..... I'm worried. While these chickens are running around, scratching and digging in the run, etc - they don't seem to be eating out of...

Rooster and drake killing each other!

I saw your post, and while I don't know the answer to the problem of them fighting, I feel bad for you. How awful. I hope someone knows how to solve this. I would try to keep them as far away from each other as possible, at least for now. Hang in there, take care.

How do I introduce several chickens (not chicks) to my flock

Just an update...Wednesday morning I went to see how they were doing, and to let them out in the run. Got a bit of a shock too... I discovered that 2 or 3 of the chickens had kind of crusty feet. (grumble, grumble...) Did a bunch of research, found they probably had leg mites. Immediately I...

    Sweet PDZ?

I found out about PDZ back in like February from this thread... and I'm still using it... and still LOVE IT!!!! Thanks again!! It is a breeze to clean up - and no stink!! I do want to get one of those bigger scoops though, we are adding to our flock... and you know what that means... yup -...

How do I introduce several chickens (not chicks) to my flock

I know, it's not a true biological quarantine. But it's all I can really do at this time. I just pray it all works out. I like your suggestion about leaving the roost up for a while, I hadn't thought of that. I did plan on leaving the food and water out. I really haven't had a chance to even...

How do I introduce several chickens (not chicks) to my flock

Continued from last post: So, under the cover of darkness, we went and picked up the new flock. We had our large dog crate in the back of the pick up. It has a camper shell on it, which is good, because it's cold out there. Our temperature is 31 degrees right now. Anyway, when we got home my...

How do I introduce several chickens (not chicks) to my flock

Well it's a done deal. We were able to put up a new extended run and put the divider in the coop. What we did was buy a dog kennel and instead of having a square we went 30 feet long and 10 feet across. It's actually as long as a 3-car garage. It's 6' tall and doesn't have a cover yet, but I...
