Review by 'Prairie Dawn' in article 'Chicken run made from pop-up gazebo or party tent'

I’m going to take this idea and RUN with it! (sorry). I’ve been looking for an affordable way to expand my run. I love projects that include re-purpose material!

My hen Sadie, lost a toe nail and is bleeding. How do I care for it?

Thank you happyhens! I went to my local farm store & at the advice of the manager a.k.a. "the chicken guy" I brought home "Wonder Dust" Wound Powder and "Blu-Kote" germicidal, fungicidal wound dressing. The Wonder Dust stops the bleeding like cornstarch & has some medicinal ingredients as...

My hen Sadie, lost a toe nail and is bleeding. How do I care for it?

There are several other, what I think are minor issues going on with my 4 girls but right now I just need to know how best to care for Sadie's lost nail. I also am wondering if I should separate her from the flock. Zelda, light cream colored hen has streaks of blood on her neck and back.

    Is this common?

Wow! THAT IS A BAZAR shape! If you haven't already, you should look at the education part of BYC. There is an excellent article about egg abnormalities. I don't recall seeing an egg like yours in it but it might. At any rate it's a very interesting read.

    Do chickens eat ants?

Thanks! I will err on the side of safety and not use the ant traps. The ants are small and I can't tell if they are eating them or not.

    Do chickens eat ants?

Do chickens eat ants? I want to know because I bought ant traps and then read that the ants eat the bait & then return to the nest and poison the ants there. If chickens do eat ants that have visited the ant bait will it make them sick? My husband says it's such a small amount it wouldn't harm...

My girls LOVE grapes, blue berries, corn - on or off cob, plain Greek yogurt, dried meal worms, oatmeal, watermelon, seeds & pulp from a honeydew melon and they go nuts for the random big bugs they happen to find during their free range time.

Do spurs indicate roosters in my future?

Gosh, I really had her pegged as a New Hampshire Red. To tell you the truth I don't really know. I'll have to look at some images of Buff O's.

Do spurs indicate roosters in my future?

Thank you for the input! Ha! Maybe my son needs to start thinking of a name change! Or, I might need to start looking for a new home . Lucy is especially sweet - maybe he'll be a reasonable addition for my two hens, Henny & Penny. Henny (NewHampshire Red) & Penny (Easter Egger)

Do spurs indicate roosters in my future?

I just snapped these photos. Erza & Lucy will be 7 weeks old on Sunday, Nov 10th. I brought them home from the Fryeburg Fair. The fellow who manages the poultry barn gave them to me. He said that Lucy is an Ameracauna…we'll see! Does this give anyone a better idea of their gender...

Do spurs indicate roosters in my future?

Oh good! There's still hope for hens! When you say "at this age" are you talking about the photos of them at 2 and ½ wks or the 6wks old that they are now? Thanks for the info!
