I did find them early morning laying under the roost bars. i check them at night, so it happened after dark, before sunrise.
The gizzard was covered with fat, a little on the heart. not much under the skin. the first one was really skin and bones, ive never seen that, yet with her feathers she...
Good morning all,
I have a situation with a new flock i received end of july. there are 28 birds and all looked healthy when they got here, i would say they are about a year old. a couple little ones were hatched with the group are about 7 months old i would guess.
I need some help with some...
The second tag is what's in their feeders every day and is more a mash or ground powder with a few specks of larger grain pieces but definately broken up. The first label was something that i thought looked good being whole grains but you are correct the minerals wouldnt stick to the grain...
The white tag is the feed/mash from the Amish mill. I also use their corn based scratch, no label. To get the chickens to scratch up where i want them to by our fruit trees, which im now guessing did the damage.
I tried 50# of the whole grain feed and scratch from an internet site. Looks really...
Here is photo of feed tags if anyone is interested. I dont have one for the corn scratch, but they wont be getting that anymore, or the whole grain organic layer.
definitely going to talk to them, im sure he is willing to do what we need to do, I have to check the calcium # as well, the shells have been softer lately and they wont eat the oystershell calcium that's always out. its actually dusty so I know they aren't eating it.
Thank You! hopefully i won't have to do a necropsy again, but i have looked up how to do one properly and will look at eyes and skin color as well. hopefully rationing and some supplements can extend the life of the other girls.
Makes total sense! even us humans would prefer to eat the yummy stuff. And i used corn scratch as a training tool to get them to scratch were i needed bug patrol. looks like the girls will be going on cleanse diet ;)
Yep! sounds like chickens, then add 4 ducks that drink with a mouthful of feed so that half of it ends up in the water and starts to ferment. we had to go to closed nipple and cup waterers for the chickens because the ducks make such a mess of their waters. all water is cleaned everyday. Its...
Thank you for such a thoughtful post. I will look at the feed composition and I will look to soy free alternatives as well. we use our eggs in our Kitchen for clients reversing health issues and i do not want soy as an ingredient. The irony of helping people with health issues and ending up with...
I have 18 left. They will be 2 in october, which is dissapointing since i bought heritage birds for a longer life span than production birds. Hopefully its not too late.
yes i will have to definately reevaluate this expensive organic non gmo feed no soy feed... or limit it. I may have too much of it out at once. I didnt really think they would over eat.. well always learning somethimg new..
The black thing seemed to be close to thigh area but then it matches the underside of the large orange organ that might be the liver. It was the correct shape but verrry mushy and started to break down in the sun. These are the last two or 3 photos i have of that orange organ and i flipped it over
