Gentle Hybrid Rooster needs good home

Delta is a Welsummer and Easter Egger cross that needs a good home. He is 8 months old and has not once displayed any sort of aggression towards anyone in the household. He hatched last July under a bantam brahma hen named Lydia. His manners were taught to him by our white Silkie Roo Vanilla...

    Injured Crop

Alright so we took her to a vet today. We had called several last night and finally found one that treats chickens not too far from us. (Our town vet would have seen her but he had to do poultry inspections today...). It it well, the vet has chickens herself! Anyway she looked at Rosie and...

    Injured Crop

Thanks eggcessive. My thoughts were along those lines but I still had to post the question. You've provided advice on questions I had at least two times before, you are a good resource and thank you for taking the time to answer my concerns.

    Injured Crop

So we had a hawk attack about an hour ago.... And our Rosie had sustained a head injury. A fairly minor one, easily cleaned. We had already decided to keep her inside for a few days... While I was preparing a little box for her to sleep in my brother and sister discovered a possible second...

    White Silkie Roos

Very funny. And and not at all stereotypical... But I guess I did set myself up for it didn't I?

    White Silkie Roos

I hate to feed into the rooster problem but we have two silkie Roos that have to go. They need their own flocks, they are causing too much trouble here. They were bought from mypetchicken, not from show stock. Vanilla Bean is the better of the two, he can be picked up rather easily. He...

Do I have an aggressive rooster?

I do agree that if he is hurting your kids then he has to go. Bantam Roos are better if you have small kids around

Do I have an aggressive rooster?

I (personally) haven't thought of this and my rooster mounts hens in front of me. I have few problems. In fact my two silkie boys will try to knock my big welsummer rooster of the hens. Our wellie roo is dominate, the silkie Roos are a couple of gang members. (They also continue to try to mount...

    Odd egg laying

So it turns out we didn't have to do much... After Clare laid her egg in a nesting box, Rosie laid her egg in the nesting box. We know this for a fact because Clare's egg looked different from the one Rosie laid (not too much different but different enough). All is well here. Thanks again for...

    Odd egg laying

Thing is here have been fake eggs in the nesting boxes since before any of them started laying. And all our EE pullets layed in the nesting boxes right away, as did our Bantam Brahma Lydia. And as of an hour ago Rosie's sister Clare has laid her first egg in a nesting box... We'll try our...

    Odd egg laying

Okay so here's the story. Our EEs gave us a pleasant surprise when they began to lay mid winter. They have been laying consistently too. I looked up welsummers (we have 2 welsummer girls) and read that they are "warm weather layers" and so didn't expect an egg from Rosie or Clare until...

    Chloe's eye

Sorry for my late reply. Her eye is looking much better! Thank you for your input

    Chloe's eye

It is soft and doesn't seem to hurt much if at all. I did introduce new birds.... But they are bantams and younger than the currant flock. No sneezing or coughing. Although when we first inspected it I did gently put my finger on the spot and gently pushed towards her eye. There was a very small...

    Chloe's eye

I tried to upload two pictures but only the normal eye one uploaded. So... Here is the bad eye

    Chloe's eye

Our EE hen Chloe's right eye is swollen, (or the area around the eye anyway). Don't know what it could be. It has been like this for a few days and none of the other members of the flock have swollen eyes. Any ideas?[/IMG]

    Rosie's red eye...

Today we looked at Rosie again and her eye looked better! After some reading we have deduced that she simply had something in her eye. They were dust bathing and it is possible that something (likely dirt) got in her eye. Will check eyes regularly though, something we should have been doing...

    Rosie's red eye...

Thanks, :) we will keep an eye on it. Hadn't considered an eye shape defect... It is possible that she always had it and we are only noticing it now because she is bigger. Again we will watch her and be ready to take action if needed. Eye shape defects... Something to do a little research on later.
