    Thanks for replies everyone have since done a bit of reading on the Production Reds. Am happy with any chicken really. Just didn't want another broody girl! Have x1 Brahma that goes broody at a drop of a hat and a bit scary! Always feel a tad guilty that she doesn't have fertile eggs.

    Hi am new to the Rhode island red breed. Birds are10-14wks there are no obvious combs as yet but the tail feathers on one are high is this normal for this breed or do i have a emerging roo? Thanks

    Help Broody Hen

    For anyone else that is in a similar position. I had no cage/broody breaker to place my hen. I locked her out of nest box for 3 days with success. It helps my other hen is going though a moult at present and didnt require a nesting box.

    My 9month old Brahma has became broody. I have no extra place/cage to put her in. I have locked her out of her nesting box much to her dismay today. It is coming into night now. Should i place cold packs in nest box to encourage her not to nest in there??

    Thank you great info. Have now added garlic to all water dishes and will do so dly. My hens have access to to dirt baths that they have created all over my yard. Am trying to save up my ash to make a Wood ash bath. Thanks again.

    Thank you. These are our 1st hens so i am still learning alot. Will definitely be chking regularly now. How long does it take for the base of feather to be free of eggs sacks, do they just drop of the shaft of the feather??

    Ive discovered louse mites on one of my hens. I have now treated both hens and Coop with a appropriate spray. Someone mentioned that after treating hens with a insecticide you shouldn't eat there eggs for a few wks after treatment. Just wondering others experience?? Thanks for any feedback
