I have a flock of 21 thirteen week old Isa-Browns, 2 of which are roos.I free range my chicks on our 6 acres and they seem to love hanging around the house eating all my wifes flowers and just making a mess of everything..Is there anything I can do to keep them closer to their coop? I hate to...
The bag of DE that i purchased did not say food grade..It is labled fossil shell flour diatomaceous earth-amorphous (fresh water type). I hope i got the right stuff !!
Here's a few pic's of my 8x8 coop. My chicks moved in monday at 4 wks of age. I was worried about our temps here so I put in a small heater along with the lamp.They appear to be comfy.Btw tthere are 21 total chicks in my coop,is this enough room ? Where did my pic's go ?
When my isa-Browns arrived they appered in good shape,did everything by the book but still lost 8..It was suggested that the dust in my pine bark could be the culprit.I removed the pine and replaced it with newspaper which I change daily..No more dead chicks.
Thanks, I'll put down paper towels and by the way the as I recall the was somewhat dusty. the chjcks came from town line farms in zeeland michigan,I don't think it was anything they did but i'll call them anyway..Stan

Hello all,I'm new to chickens and this forurm.My 26 Isa-Browns arrived yesterday and all appeared in good condition. My Question is do the chics need some sort of grit to digest their food or is it in the starter food? Thanks Stan
