I had a bad experience about a month ago, where I stepped on one of my son's rats. As I stepped backwards I felt bones snapping and before I could lean forward I'd put all my weight on her. She laid there not moving and sort of curled up on her side on the floor. I immediately picked her up...
Why! Why!, why did someone have to start a thread about these creatures? Okay, so let's do this!
What is you take on goat breeds, I love how the African Pygmies look, so cute! But the Nigerian's are beautiful as well, I have about five acres, and about half is covered with weeds, I have a...
I want one, bad. Someone on Craigslist is selling 2 buckling's 1/4 Alpine, 1/4 Saanen, 1/2 nubian. Super cute and $25.00/ea.
We have a barn, but obviously no heat, and in Western WI. What do you think it would take to winter them over? I mean if I have a barn stall, but no heat, would that...
I'll bet your right, they probably are nesting up there, the barn is an old timber frame, and the hayloft opening is always accessible. Normally those birds sort of come around occasionally, but lately they've been hanging out much more, the pair.
Also, there's a lot of old hay still up there...
Thanks, I'm also assuming that most of the predators that we'd have back there operate at night, so unless one is really hungry the birds should be okay during the day.
How far up into the trees do your birds go? We have a lot of low hung trees with easily accesible branches, will the chickens...
I'm wondering how far from the coop they will range, we have a lot of open area, but there is a thick treeline a couple hundred yards away with lots of critters.
Wow, that article is incredibly harsh! Poor bird, kinda of ironic, they wait around to see this rare bird only to have it swopped on by a buzzard.
Thanks for the link, it really does go to show that animals are just as unpredictable as humans.
Oh and excuse my massaacre of the word "pileated"
Wow! thanks, sounds like I shouldn't worry about it too much, but that last observation was entertaining if nothing else. I've seen hawks around here feasting on smaller birds, but haven't seen any coordinated vulture attacks. I did see two pilliated woodepckers and a barrd owl within the last...
We have two turkey vultures hanging out in our hay loft which sits just above our coop. They kind of hang out even when we are out in yard. I'm wondering if they will take chickens out of the yard? My GSD hangs out most of the time, but I'm afraid they may swoop in and carry one off, they are...
Ello,
My Swedish wife has been hunting and searching and dreaming of Swedish breeds, with no luck. We are in Western WI, and from what I've read of the breed they are very cold hardy and what the hell, even though Iceland isn't really Sweden, I'd love to surprise her with pair.
Could you put...
I'm in River Falls, so I'd come for sure, with my wife and two kids and maybe my 15-year old deaf, almost blind German Shepherd, if it woul dbe ok to bring her (she's just sleep in the shade). Even if she doesn't come, we'd still be there.
Thanks!
Hello,
Beatiful shepherd, I have a 14 year old female who I love more than anything in this world with the exception of my wife and children. She's getting towards the end of her life and I'm starting to think about a puppy. If you wouldn't mind, did you get him from a breeder? and if so...
My wife is from Fon du Lac so I know the region fairly well! I'll check out the Cheesehead thread (although kinda a Vikings fan, sorry )
And @Alabama, I just watched True Romance last night after not seeing it for years, loved it... sorry your location made me think of Alabama Hurley...
Thanks, I'll search around, and by the way... I just looked at your page and you have a beautiful farm! I just finished reading a book called A Barn in New England: Making a Home on 3 Acres , it gave me a nice vision of what the landscape in New England is like.
Beautiful pictures of your...
Jennifer,
Thanks for your reply! oddly enough, my wife's name is also Jennifer, last name Johannson. Would you know of a hatchery which sells these hens? I'd love to surprise her with a couple chicks.
We will be traveling to Stockholm sometime in the near future, but chicken smuggling isn't...
Well, the good news is I have a giant corn crib which could easily be converted if I decide to go bigger. Then there's a 25 x 40 foot grainery which could house more
