I let mine free-range daily. Haven't lost one to any flying predators, or any predators for that matter. I think the freedom that they get is kind of "worth the risk". They get better exercise, fresh ground, more bugs and grass and sunshine. They're just happier all around!
Hello yall! I haven't posted here in awhile...
I'm in the Barrow, Gwinnett, Hall, Jackson Co area....kind of right smack dab between these 4 counties.
I'm looking for some chicks, say about 3-4 wks old, in that range...up to about 8 wks old or so.
I lost 5 birds to a dog....my own dog...
Wow, almost 3 years since anyone posted here?!? :-/
Well, here's my story...every dog has been a rescue. I got the tiny puppy that the mother rejected, she was 15 when she passed. I adopted the sickly black kitten with the crusted eyes...he turned into a huge hulk of a cat, he was about 13 when...
Perfect! I'm so glad to hear that. I looked over the Metzer website and I love that they offer so much information about the breeds that they have (the WH got a 'very calm' rating, as did the Pekin, so I loved seeing that!) as well as offering so much information on their care, feeding, housing...
Most likely, unless they can't.
If thats the case, then I'll build a separate run for them come Spring.
I have a 5ftx10ft covered (while it's cold and yucky out) run for my two Serama hens. I could do something similar for the ducks, if needed.
Are you concerned that the ducks, as adults, might...
Thank you for your feedback! I looked into both breeds, and I think I've made a decision...but I'd like y'alls opinion on if it's a good one.
I was thinking of getting a Pekin and a Welsh Harlequin, ordering from Metzer. I looked at the breeds they offer, and I think they're the best breeds for...
I am thinking of getting a couple of baby duckies...what do y'all recommend for a first-timer of ducks? I don't have a 'flock' of anything, unless having two Serama hens is a flock, lol.
I want something friendly with smaller chickens and children, that isn't big on flying and could...
I have two American Serama hens, they're indoor pets (have their new diapers on order, should have them in soon!)...one or both (not sure which) make a sound reminiscent of crowing.
They're almost a year old, they were around roosters when they were younger, but it's been awhile since they were...
When and where exactly is the show? I'm new to all of this and would love to go to a show!
I 2nd the question about the N. Ga shows too...I'm up in Barrow Co., Hoschton.
It does get very confusing sometimes!
My husband and I work for a company that does jobs all over the state, so when being told where our next job will be, I have to make sure that I know which location we're assigned to. We've been assigned to go to Fayette and so I'm thinking it's near...
Hello, everyone! I'm new here, this is my 1st post, have been lurking for a bit though.
I just got my first two little girls today, American Serama.
I'm new to all of this. Been reading threads here, wanting to learn as much as possible before I got my girls.
Mine are basically house chickens, I...
