    Flock destroyed

Yesterday when my 9y/o went to check for eggs on the flock he's been raising for over a year, he found all 15 chickens (13 hens and 2 roosters) dead. Two stray dogs tore into the fence overnight and killed every single chicken we had. He is devastated. He put so much work and time into being the...

    Chirping eggs

I think we're talking about the same mag! I think I will give the fan thing a try. You and my chicken shepherd have a very similar initial track record, so we'll see how it goes. I'm leaving for El Salvador on a medical mission trip in 5 days, so he will be here with grand parents to do his own...

    Chirping eggs

At first I thought Bob (5yo rooster) just wasn't doing the deal. So I traded eggs with a neighbor n got same results. Not even veins. At that time he was turning eggs by hand. Once I got him an automatic egg tuner we started seeing progress. And he was only putting 4-6 eggs in, so wasn't a big...

    Chirping eggs

So he ended up with one chick. the others just didn't hatch. Did a couple "eggtopsies" and all had fully developed chicks inside. I'm wondering if the humidity had anything to do with it. Another thing is the one chick (named BBQ) will only put weight on one leg. When the other leg comes down to...

    Chirping eggs

My 9 y/o son, a self proclaimed "chicken shepherd" has been trying to hatch eggs in a hovabator still air since Christmas with no hatches yet. We're hatching out of a mix of eggs our big chickens lay (multiple breeds, mostly red/black sex links). When we went on lock down, I got the humidity up...

In today's headlines....Budget cuts have finally hit the the fast food industry. Happy Meals will no longer come with 4 cooked chicken nuggets.

    First time hatching

This may be a stupid question....I first saw my rooster mating a couple hens today. If I'm wanting to hatch some, how long after mating should I wait to harvest eggs? We eat several of the eggs so I'm trying to narrow it down to which eggs to eat and which to let go to the incubator (or let the...

    chicken hawks

I've got a 3y/o red with 2.5 in spurs that is very protective over the hens. What makes me think our local red tail likes the light colored ones is that I see it all the time and it never pays any mind to the red sex links or even the smaller black game hens...the day after I got a mature buff...
