I lost a few chickens to a Racoon and that is when I ran hot wire around my coop, one at the bottom and one at the top. I have not had a problem since. We bought a solor paneled charger so we did not have to run electricity. I wish you luck with your new chickens.

I live in WA State and am looking for some more BC Marans. I order some eggs and out of 16, I have only got 2 possibly 3 babies. I would prefer to try to find chick or adults since most breeder are far away from me. Thank you. Kelly

I dont think eggs from the fridge will hatch. If I remember correctly, you have to keep them at a certain temp.

I fed my hen tums for calcium and scrambled eggs for protien for a couple of days when she was eggbound. I ground up the tums and put them in the scrambled eggs. I also soaked her in warm water a couple times a day. It took her two days to finally lay her egg and about 3 more days to act...

This is very common in mares. My girl is due in couple of weeks and she is doing the same thing. It is when her bag stays full and has white milk that you want to keep a watch on her. Good luck and safe foaling. :OD

Well I just marked the ones she has under her and will check daily for new ones. I think I have another one going broody too which doesn't hurt my feelings because i have so many eggs in my fridge, I won't run out for 6 weeks,lol.

I had my first batch of chicks hatch out on Sunday and it took them a good amount of time to get out of the eggs. My first one pipped about 6 Sat night and by the next morning, I had 6 babies. The rest were hatched out by the next morn. I had one that took about 18 hours to get out. Good luck

I have heard that shavings can be dangerous to new chicks. Does anyone know about what age it is safe to put them on shavings. My little ones are 4 days old today. thanks:D
