    Another keet question

Thanks for the advice. One of the keets got out of the kennel but I had the door closed to the coop and went directly to the adults. One peck from the adults and she was hanging with them until I could catch the keet and put it back. They are fast! I didn't think about the predators and...

    Another keet question

So I put my three 6 weeks old keets in the coop last week with the heat lamp and they have done well with the temp in the 20's at night. They are in an extra large wire dog kennel. I know they need to be in there for about 6 weeks to know where home is but I was wondering....they really seem...

Why would the fertility rate be so low?

Wow! Thanks for the info. This summer was a record breaker here for heat in the Midwest so maybe that's the problem. I also noticed that all three sets that I incubated hatched at 25 days instead of 28 so maybe the incubator is too hot? it's a Genesis Hovabator and is supposed to be...

Why would the fertility rate be so low?

The guineas eat with the chickens who are on layer pellets. They all free range together and put themselves into the chicken coop at dusk with the chickens. Two of the males are the same age as the hen. I bought them as day olds and don't know if they are related. The other two males are about...

When can I put the keets outside?

They have been on game bird starter that is 24 % protein. Is that high enough?

Why would the fertility rate be so low?

From what I've read here and online, they breed with one mate a season? I have 3 keets and hopefully they are girls. That would even things up nicely. Out of 6 keets I bought and raised only two were female and one of those was killed by something.

Why would the fertility rate be so low?

I currently have 5 adult guineas (one female and 4 males). This year was the females first year to lay. I've never seen them mate but I've incubated her eggs 3 times. Each with 14-16 eggs. The first 2 hatches only had 2 keets. The last hatch had only 5 fertile when I candled at day 10...

When can I put the keets outside?

Thanks JLeigh. I was hoping 6 weeks, they look fully feathered until they lift their wings and the body is mostly down except a stripe of feathers down the middle of the back. I sure hope this fills in quickly.

When can I put the keets outside?

I have 3 five week old keets and they are in a brooder in my basement. They are getting kind of big for it and I'd like to put them in their coop but it has been getting down in the 30's at night. The coop is actually a run in shed with an open front but the front wall is just hardware cloth...

Egg color experts - How did this happen?

I didn't know they could take so long to start laying, but I guess it is what it is! Maybe she'll lay for a long time since she was since a late bloomer. Thanks!

    Layer Feed

That's about when I switch mine to layer feed. And yes, the roosters do eat it.

Egg color experts - How did this happen?

This is just strange. I got another one today. So either she just started laying (but the eggs are not small like newbies give) or she's been laying them elsewhere and I've never found one which I think is also strange. They do free range but you'd think I would have found at least one...

Egg color experts - How did this happen?

I incubated several eggs 18 months ago. The rooster was a EE and was crossed with several different breeds. As they grew up, two looked like EE's but laid brown eggs. So they have been laying for over a year and yesterday I got a green egg! How did this happen?

When I awoke this morning the second keet had arrived without any help from me. This is my second hatch and I only have one female but I was wondering....the first batch of 13 only two hatched. This is a batch of 16 and so far only two hatched. One Sunday eve and the other Tuesday morning...

It still nothing although I can see it moving sometimes. How long can they go from pip to zip? I don't know if I should help it or not.
