    Bloody chicken butt

I had a problem with some of my chickens having bloody butts and the others were pecking at them. We had to separate them. Then we washed them and put some Calendula tincture on them. Then I read above about the Blu-Kote spray so I ordered some of that and also more peepers (which have always...

    Non-electric incubation?

I'm just now reading these posts. Somebody said there was a guy on this website who makes kerosene incubators. How can I reach him or find out more about where to find them. Lehman's is pretty expensive. I don't want to pay that much. I want a non-electric incubator. Thanks! :)

    broody chicken

We have 6 Buff Orpingtons - all 6 months old. We get 2-4 eggs a day and I can't tell who is laying. We have one broody hen who stays in her nesting box all the time. When I go out in the afternoon, I lift her out of her nesting box and put her outside with the others. Sometimes there is an egg...

Cleaning feathers to use for crafts

We just processed three of our chickens today for the first time - what a long process. So, we are waiting to process the other three next weekend. We will have feathers from 6 chickens. I've read the comments above on how to clean them. Thank you. What can I do with all these feathers? The...

Can you make your own bloodmeal?

Did anybody reply to your question about making blood and bone meal? I was wondering the same thing. We need organic blood and bone meal for our garden and we are also about to process our chickens. I was hoping to use the blood and bones from them to make this. I read online under EHow that...

    Huge area exposed ***UPDATE 1/20/14***PICTURES

Please keep us posted on how she does when re-introduced. Mine are all getting along fine right now but they still have their peepers on. I think I'll start taking them off one chicken at a time so that each one can get acclimated before the next one.

Rooster Comb bleeding from frost bite I think???

LOL! I also looked up bumblefoot because I didn't know what that was either and that sounds pretty scary. I need to go out and check all of my hens' feet next. Have a good evening.

Rooster Comb bleeding from frost bite I think???

I went online to get my answer. They said it is cutting off the comb! They go into more detail on why you should do it but it isn't recommended. Sounds scary to me. They also said that cutting off the wattle is called dewattling! Here is there definition of dubbing: ~~Dubbing is a procedure...

    What is moulting?

Our hens are 21 months old and some are losing feathers around the tail, some in the chest area, and some in the wing area. I have also noticed that out of our 6 hens, we are getting about 3 eggs per day - give or take an egg. Does this sound like moulting or feather picking by other chickens...

Rooster Comb bleeding from frost bite I think???

This is some really good advice, so I'm going to hold onto this. I'm a new chicken owner and have been learning a lot of new things and frost bite is one of them. One of my hens has some hard black spots on her comb and I put bag balm on her today. A couple other of my chickens have slight...

    Huge area exposed ***UPDATE 1/20/14***PICTURES

Thank you for the advice. This was a last ditch effort. After numerous other suggestions that were given to me in another post, we resorted to using these. I was told to leave these on for 2 months and then take them off. So, that is what I was going to do. Is that not a good idea? I was told if...
