Some of my chicks are hatching today!

I don't know how many will actually hatch out of the 11 eggs my 3 (or 4) silkies are trying to sit on, but I do know a few are hatching today. I found a couple eggs had fallen out of the nest and got rather cold, its sad... I think one chick died after only pipping out a tiny little hole, poor...

    Australian Shepherds protecting chickens?

I have an aussie, she is fine with my chickens, loves to tease them into chasing her. If she hears any sort of commotion my dog will run over and break it up. So far I haven't had any trouble with hawks, even though they nest right next to our house!

    Too much love?

Too much love? Depends on how they are handled. Of course chickens don't like being strangled or hung by their feet, wings, or tail. But just picking them up and petting them any time you see them is fine, I do it all the time. The result is very tame chickens that just looove being petted. If I...

    3 broody hens + 1 nest

For some odd reason 3 of my silkie hens went broody at once all in one nest box. I was planning on letting them hatch some eggs and sell the chicks after they got to a certain age. But won't it be a little mixed up with 3 hens not knowing who's chicks are who's and the chicks not knowing which...

    Hi ~ I'm a new person here :)

Hello everyone, I am, as you might have seen on the subject, a newbie on the site. I decided I needed some input occasionally on some things every once in a while and thought, what better way then a chicken forum? And so here I am, I'll tell you a little about myself and my feathered minions...
