2 Week Old Chick Won't Put Weight on Leg and Lethargic

And now she's not even trying to use her legs. She will drink water and eat when I bring it to her. I'm thinking I need to remove her, and all the chicks, to a brooder so I can watch her. They are attached to mom, but this little chick (her name is Noodle) can't get out of the way while mom is...

2 Week Old Chick Won't Put Weight on Leg and Lethargic

I've been looking for leg splint photos of chicks, does anyone have a few photos? Not for splayed legs. I might try and just wrap her right leg.

2 Week Old Chick Won't Put Weight on Leg and Lethargic

One of our little 2-week-old chicks has been a little lethargic and barely walking for the past day. She is eating and drinking, when I move her to the vitamin water and food. She still pecks at things while she's laying down, but she appears to be breathing a little faster, and she's sleeping a...

    Swollen Wattle Thoughts

I forgot to update this post. I took my old lady hen to the Avian vet. It is definitely not fowl cholera or anything else contagious. The vet even mentioned that she hasn't seen a case of fowl cholera in the 15 years at her clinic (since it's very rare). My lady is just getting old. It might...

    Swollen Wattle Thoughts

I’ll have to call a vet. This will be a first for our hens, so I’ll need to find someone that knows chickens! I’ll have to separate tomorrow after I purchase a spot to put her. Thanks!

    Swollen Wattle Thoughts

I zoomed in on her eye and it is puffy. No irritation. It’s not usually that puffy and I didn’t even notice it. Poor girl.

    Swollen Wattle Thoughts

I kind of had that thought. She’s our first hen and she’s the coolest.

    Swollen Wattle Thoughts

Hey Friends, My oldest hen (she’s 6) has a swollen wattle. I read about fowl cholera and I don’t know if it’s looking the same as other chickens I’ve seen online. She’s pretty old and has been moving slow for the past year and she’s not getting worse with the swelling. Any thoughts? It’s just...

Ended 2019 BYC Calendar - We Need Your Pictures!

Thanks! My daughter and I did a little chicken photoshoot. I like to take weekly photos when we have chicks (#crazychickenlady). ;) We are a city chicken family so we only ever have around 5ish chicks. Easy to keep up with. :thumbsup

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I forgot to share an update on the chick I helped hatch. It's doing just fine! It's the smallest of all of them and is the most clumsy. :D

    I am at a loss!

New to this post, but I gotta know: did you pick a name? Can I also mention that “Nippy Chicks” might get some interesting internet traffic?

I would do that if I had an incubator. It's so fascinating. Also: I love my Seramas.

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

It seems okay. It’s just pretty weak and not as strong as the other 2 day old chicks. So far mom is being gentle, but I can tell she’s ready to go explore and this chick needs a day or two.

I did it. The chick was not attached to anything in there. Just 100% stuck. Poor thing is exhausted.

    July Hatch-a-Long

One of my chicks has been like this for 15 hours. Just the leg sticking out. My chicken pro friend told me how to pick a little shell off to help it. Stop if I see red! It’s screaming in there... so it can breath. I’m nervous. Wish me luck!

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Another chick today! I had to move the chick to someone new because Bitey, she hatched this one, was pecking at the chick. This chick is now under another hen. Bitey is locked out of the hatching area and is not happy about it.
