I have been using the Stall Dry. I have been pleased with the results and it is cheaper than the PDZ. I use a litter box scooper to sift out the droppings everyday and dump them into a bucket before adding the waste to the compost pile. I usually just add some more Stall Dry to the poop board...
Chasing them around will just get them more excited. Think of yourself as a shepherd slowly guiding them to where they need to go. What works for us is slowly moving a broom from one side to the other, while slowly walking, and guiding them back into the pen. Once a few go in, they rest follow.
I have had good luck with the chicks I've got from the Dunlap Hatchery when I lived in Caldwell years ago and so I went back there last February, even though there are other stores that were closer to Eagle. All of the chicks I picked up in February are all healthy and grew up well. They are a...
I applied the blackjack 57 up to about waist high (way too high). Even with two windows, it darkened the inside way too much. I would only go up about a foot If I was to do it over.
+1. I put Black Jack 57 down on my shed floors and it works great. On the section of the shed that is partitioned off for the chicken coop we did the floor and halfway up the walls. This stuff looks like it will last for a long time.
D&B here in the valley gets chicks from both Dunlap Hatchery (Nampa) and Privett Hatchery (in New Mexico). Some of the D&Bs have a better selection than other D&Bs.
sure what part of Washington you are in. Here's a link for Dunlap Hatchery in Caldwell, Idaho. https://www.dunlaphatchery.net/Birds/Standards/Standards.aspx
I used a two stacked pieces of 2x6 scrap wood to elevate my water feeder. It has kept a lot of the pine chips out of the water dish. I also did the same for the feeder. Seems to work for me.
I have been successful using vertical nipples and my horizontal nipples. I used a 21/64 drill bit and then used a 3/8 x24 tap to put threads in the material. I've had no leaks and have used PVC as well as plastic containers. If you are cracking the material, you could try drilling slower and...
I was originally thinking about building a small 4x5 coop, but I am not so sure now as I look at the excellent work you are doing on your coop. You definitely giving me some good ideas. I have a bunch of used wood left over from a deck rebuild and it is making more sense for me to spend a...
I like the exchange of ideas between all of you. It is amazing all the things that a rank novice like me would not even think to look at. I am learning slowly, but I am working on it and enjoying this thread. One question novice question. I am curious if there is a functional reason not to...
I don't think Raven is a Barred Rock, but it does look like the female Bar Rock chicks can have some black on their legs, but the black on my Black Sex link chick is definitely darker than the black on my Barred Rock Chicks...
