This is EXACTLY what my sport birds looked like at hatch. Black body, red head. Never had any birds look like that before! And have grown out as shown here (no pics of pullets but their pattern is around the neck and looks like spangling or penciling.)
Unlike some others here the black seems...
Would like to talk more. Been breeding as a BJ conservator for many years but have questions about what I’m seeing in some sports that popped up last year. (First time ever).
Obviously it’s very important to me to manage this correctly as I am steward to one of very few Java breeding flocks...
I do have it! Just pm’d you after seeing this thread, 😂 so it’s great to see you were the person who replied here. My first time back on the forums in several years but have hatched and raised hundreds of Black Javas. Let’s talk more!
Been breeding BJs for 17 years. Had some sport auburns pop up last year and working this year to mate those. In WNC. Would like to connect with others as I have notes and questions!
UPDATE: customer reports it might be one of their OWN blue Marans. [\B]
One of my customers reported hatching out this chick. I have never seen this color but read that Garfield Farms (the breeder I bought from got all his there) hatched out a gray and white chick that feathered out all white...
Oh interesting! Yes I love all things reproduction too. Usually eggs are pretty easy to tell one side from the other...but sometimes not! I find it funny that BJs are so hardy that even an egg laid in the barn who knows when (I figured let's give it a shot and see if it develops) and shipped...
Have completed four hatches now. I have staggered hatches; they incubate in the incuview for the first several days then move to brinsea eco20 with turner (rock solid, love that baby) for a wk, then lockdown in incuview. Have had excellent hatches at or above 90%.
Moved eggs from ends of...
Girls are going strong, and I am finding I have eggs available to send on Wednesday (6-8, sometimes more) even after filling the weekly Monday shipment.
IF you know you can get eggs on Saturday from your post office, and this sounds good to you, let me know! Zones close to me (I'm in NC) may...
UPDATE after several hatches here: SOME of my chicks are hatching out showing AUBURN. Not surprising since they are almost all Garfield Farm line where the auburn gene was worked back from extinction. These pop up sometimes in BJs. Just know that I have discovered that one of my hens must be...
I have Black Javas only...my birds came from a closed flock straight from Garfield Farm. A few of them have some auburn bits on their faces and heads at hatch. One born yesterday has a LOT of auburn on face. The ones that have had this are generally VERY dark all over with more like gray...
