Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

UPDATE 10 weeks now. I am still saying pullet. She/he has some really dark red on the wings which still worries me though Her/his comb is still pink but not deep red like the known cockerels.

Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I have 3 8 week Easter Eggers. So, far I can tell that 2 of them are cockerals. The 3rd I believe is a pullet due to its pale small single row comb and general demeanor. However, its coloring pattern is throwing me off. I really hope she is a pullet. I hatched out 13 eggs(Easter Egger, Buff...

Shipped eggs went to wrong county.

Buying shipped eggs is a gamble. I have done it 3 times now. Only once was successful. 1st time they got lost for 15 days in the postal system, 0% hatched. The hatchery, Meyer, was awesome and resent some more eggs at no extra cost. I count that as the 2nd and I received those eggs in good...

How risky is buying hatching eggs this time of year?

Thanks. Nothing fancy, just some Australorps, Buff Orpingtons, and Easter Eggers. In 2 weeks I will be starting a batch of true Ameraucanas. So, I will be doing the shipped egg thing again :)

How risky is buying hatching eggs this time of year?

Here are some in their temporary brooder. They stay in this small brooder for 1 week. It makes it easier to monitor them and any issues that they have. Then they move onto the big brooder.

I look forward to see how your hatch goes. A bunch of mine, around 33%, had saddle air cells. All 7 of them hatched and are doing good.

    7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

I love my Premier 1 plate too. By far the best money I spent on any upgrades to my brooder.

    7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

We are finishing up after 38 hours.14 hatched out of 21 fertile egg, yielding a hatch % of 67%. 3 Easter Eggers, 6 Australorp, 5 Buff Orpingtons. Not bad for eggs shipped across the country during the Christmas shopping season.

Yup that is me. I have you to thank for that. You recommended that Idaho/Utah group too me. It really is an awesome group, great people. Thanks, again. Yeah, I should have a few more sensor built out around spring time, if not a little before that. When I get them built I was going to offer...

How risky is buying hatching eggs this time of year?

*Update* I figure I would do another update now before I forget ;) . Out of 24 eggs 3 were removed for being clear and 5 more for Blood rings. So, only 16 eggs are left in the incubator.

    7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

As kid everything seemed to take forever and as an adult now everything seems to move soooooo fast. Another year is gone and by in a blink of an eye. Except, when I am hatching eggs then it seems like they take forever

    Brinsea Mini Advance

I was in the same boat a while back. I started looking at the Brinsea Mini Advance. However, I moved away from it to the Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco because of the capacity to do more eggs. The mini I felt didn't quite have enough space except for a real casual "hatcher" and for the price it seemed a...

    What's a good incubator?

I love my Brinsea Octagon Eco 20. Good size when I want to hatch more and great when I want to hatch a few. It sits in my kitchen. Combine it with the autoturn cradle and it is almost a fiddle free design on the temperature. Downsides are cost and fiddling with the humidity. I live in the high...

THE Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread; Hatches, etc. (PICS)

Interesting note with at least the Octagon 20 Eco, there is approximately 0.5 degrees Fahrenheit differences between the far clockwise rotation vs. the far counter-clockwise rotation of the whole incubator when in or not in the auto turn cradle. I have a custom wireless battery powered sensor...
