Free range chickens and patios - can they ever coexist?

Lol pretty much the same, except the third reason was that I was building a garden and didn't want them eatting my tomatoes (now I give them the "not so good" ones). I have a coop and laaaarge large back yard, hens would sit on the back steps wondering where I was and the treats. My yard is a...

    Lowest coop temp?

The major thing you need the heat for is the water. Chickens cant drink ice! I'd worry about electrical equipment catching the coop on fire with anything else.

    Treating frostbite

Any reason you don't want to take her to the vet? I'd take mine in a heartbeat. Actually I saw one of my birds combs bleeding, took her inside to look at the wound and stop the bleeding. It started turning black so I took her to the vet. Vet said to just let it fall off and she'd be OK. Later...

    Sherlock and the Egg Mystery

So I had been noticing for the past month that when I went in to collect eggs, they were broken with a horrible mess made in the box. I thought at the time, maybe they needed more calcium for stronger eggs, so I gave them more calcium treats and put more fluff in their boxes. Then slowly I...

    Feed being passed into Eggs

How much of the nutrition from things fed to chickens will get passed onto eggs? I started feeding my chickens raw pumpkin, and apparently it has 300% Vitamin A per serving. I've been thinking about giving them more variety of foods with other health benefits.

    Chicken Coop and Paint

I'm currently building a replacement coop. For the new one, I have all of the wood constructed (new wood, treated 4x4's and both treated/untreated 2x4's), and the next step is the painting. Well today I've done one layer of primer, but I'm not sure how much primer to paint to use. Should I go...

Scaly Leg Mites - Need Best / Easiest / Quickest Solution - Scaley

I have two 6 month old sex links that I've had for a month already. I was wondering if they had pre-mites or if they just had dry skin on their scales. They're pretty fat, eat a lot of food and drink a lot of water, defecate normally, not laying yet but they're starting to redden up. I haven't...
