    Chickens Fav Treats!!!!

Yes, mine LOVE tomatoes. I usually give them the parts i don't want (if they're bruised or not ripe enough) or tomatoes with too much bug damage from the garden. I've heard that you just need to avoid giving them the greens/vines of the tomato plants as they're toxic (to humans too!) They...

    Chickens Fav Treats!!!!

I wouldn't give them vanilla or any other flavored yogurt, mainly because it has so much sugar in it. it's almost like pudding! plain only, and even then i only give in moderation; i've heard of some chickens getting the runs because they don't have the enzymes to digest dairy.

    Chickens Fav Treats!!!!

This has been so interesting to watch in my flock too. They are getting growth spurts at different times so day-to-day it can change who's the biggest, and I definitely feel like I see that play out in their little skirmishes. I just gave my babies some bruised peach today and they LOVED it...

    Chickens Fav Treats!!!!

A friend gave me some quinoa that she was going to throw out because pantry moths had got to it. Certainly not something my chooks mind! I rinsed some of it and gave it to them raw and they loved it. She gave me some raw macaroni noodles, too. Anyone know if it's ok to crush them up and give...

    litter boxed trained chickens????

This thread might be dead, but I also would be interested to learn from anyone who's trained their chickens to poop in only certain locations. I love hanging out with them but I sure am tired of them pooping on me. Especially those cecal poops! Anyone had luck with it?

How do you keep them from pooping everywhere when you have them inside?

    Chickens Fav Treats!!!!

Mine love to eat carrots if you'll hold them for them. They can bite off pieces even though it's hard, but they need something to stabilize the carrot while they do it. Putting the carrots in a suet cage (or something makeshift that's similar) should do the trick too. I do the same thing with...

    Chickens Fav Treats!!!!

I'm of the opinion that you definitely don't have to give your chickens meat at all. if you're giving them a quality feed, that should hopefully have everything they need in it (although I tend to think that letting them scrounge for some greens and bugs on their own is an important part of...

    Chickens Fav Treats!!!!

Mine seem to love purple and red treats the best: grapes strawberries red cabbage red lettuce They also loved the leftover roasted pumpkin i gave them -- picked the skins clean. They're starting to take a liking to yogurt after at first just shaking it off and rubbing their beaks on the...

    Plaque eating?

This may be kinda gross to some folks, but here goes. Sometimes when I'm holding one of my pullets on my arm and talking to her, she'll peck at the space where my teeth meet and eat something from there, whether a little bit of plaque or just saliva, I don't know. I'm wondering if there are...

Congrats! I propose that the Judge Judy one should be the runner up. That one still cracks me up every time I see it.

My babies are sneezing but don't seem to be sick.

Hi y'all, I have four chicks who will be five weeks old tomorrow. I have them in a homemade cardboard brooder (about 1.5' by 3.5') in my bedroom. Their bedding is dried leaves, mostly willow oaks, from my backyard. At this point, though, their bedding is probably about half chick feed . They...

How much treats is too much treats? Specifically sweet treats (grapes) for chicks.

I am giving them some other treats too like kale, dandelion greens, lettuce, and the occasional bug that I find around the house. They should have access to plenty of grit -- one of them tried dust bathing in the grit dish so I decided to put a whole little box of dirt from the yard in their...

How much treats is too much treats? Specifically sweet treats (grapes) for chicks.

Hi there! I've looked around but have had trouble getting a good sense of what 'moderation' versus 'too much' looks like when feeding grape pieces to my little chicks. They love them and I enjoy the opportunity to work on socializing them a bit, but I definitely don't want to overload their...
