    YO GEORGIANS! :)

So guys I have made some upgrades to my chicken coop. I installed 2 linear actuators that are connected to a photocell. Every night when it gets dark the coop door and run door automatically close and every morning when it gets light they open. I also installed a camera in the coop so I can...

Yes, Buried up to my head. It was supposed to be ironic cause I believe most people like to live their life with their head in the sand, but not me.

Luckily he didn't mess with the birds at all. He walked in looked in the laying boxes and walked out. I'm locking the run door at night now till I can get my automatic door installed.

I guess that is possible. I just thought because of her age she wasn't old enough to molt. As far as traumatizing goes catching her wasn't fun for either of us. After getting dusted she went directly into the coop and roosted for the night. Hopefully I didn't exacerbate the situation. I could...

Got my first "sick" hen. So I have an Americana who has a pale comb and it looks as though she is loosing feathers. She is less than a year old. I caught her yesterday and dusted her with DE in hopes its mites or parasites, but I think it may be a respiratory issue or worse. She is still running...

So what i have done at this point is purchase foam pipe insulation from lowes. Now i am going to order a pipe heater and put inside of the foam insulation at the faucet so the faucet does not freeze and just have it plugged in all the time. I will then put a Y valve on the hose before it goes...

Looking for recommendations. I have my chicken waterer hooked to about 500ft of hose then feeding a 5gal bucket with a toilet flange. How do you guys recommend I winterize with this type of setup. My primary concern is that it the hose will burst or freeze up the hose then the faucet and burst...

Anything I should worry about with this cold weather front coming through as far as my birds are concerned? In Statesboro. Coop is pretty locked down with nothing but the door open at this point.

My last cornish rock hen died yesterday. From the looks of it she was mortally wounded by one or both of the roosters while they were trying to mate her. The only reason I was keeping her and the roosters around was to attempt to hatch a hybrid bird. Anyway their fates were tied together and I...

I got my first green egg this Saturday. Got two on Sunday which means both my Americanas are laying now. Egg to the far left is what my Cornish Rock is laying. She is having a tuff time in this heat. I need to separate her from the roosters as she is too easy to "catch" and they are getting ruff...

My coop is already 2 foot off the ground. They have not had any issues since adding the curtains.

I fought this battle with my hens. From my experience they lay in the darkest most secure place they can find. For me that meant building boxes and putting up curtains. This did not work at all and they were laying in the dirt in the run and in the darkest corner of the coop. I then had...

So I got 3 eggs yesterday. Woot Woot. That means 4 of the 7 are laying. I suspect the 4 layers are 3 RRs and the 1 Cornish Rock. That means my barred rock and 2 Americana/EEs are the late bloomers. Cant wait to get a colored egg.

So I was having an issue getting my girls to lay in the box configuration I had. I then reconfigured everything and they still wouldn't lay in them. Then put up curtains and changed the lighting so the boxes were the darkest spot in the coop. Well they started laying in the box, but they refused...
