I got these guys in an assortment from Meyer Hatchery, and I'm not too sure what I ended up with.
Chicken #1
Chicken #2 - Blue Orpington or Andalusian?
Chicken #3 - Lavender Orpington?
Thanks!

I know they're not recognized, yet so I won't get points or anything. How would I go about finding a local club that would allow them? Are they considered a whole separate breed or just a different variety of the Orpington breed?
Mine probably aren't the best for showing anyway, so it'll be a...
Hi All! Mind if I join in?
I have two little 7 week old Lavender Orpington Cockerels. They are super cute, and my favorites out of my flock (second only to my Polish Pullet. ). I would really like to get into breeding these guys, since I love their color and temperament. I'm looking for some...
Looks like a cockerel to me.
If you don't want a rooster, I would grow him out and butcher him for you and your family or your pup. My livestock guard dogs, eat Raw chicken, and I've never had a problem with them attacking the chickens.
I ended up getting two of these guys, and only need one. What is a good asking price for them? The hatchery I bought them from sells them at $32.55 for a day old chick. I was thinking between $40 - $50, but wasn't sure if that is too high.
This waterer is great! It keeps my girls' water clean and cool. To prevent it from leaking, it must be placed on an even flat surface, and the top should be latched to the base.
Can anyone suggest a good substitute for chick grit? I'm currently buying it from TSC for $5 a bag and they go through it pretty quickly (I have around 50 chicks), so I'm looking for a more cost effective alternative.
Thanks!
Thanks for the responses! This morning I read all sorts of horror stories about what hatcheries do with them. So, to put my mind at ease I emailed Meyer Hatchery, which is where I purchase my chicks from, and asked them about it. Honestly I hadn't expected to hear back from them, but a few hours...
I'm aware they're not a popular choice for egg layers. When I butchered mine out they were around 4 months old, and I wanted some egg layers, so I figured why not hang onto a few and see if they lay. Sure enough they started laying eggs around 6 months old.
I restrict the amount of grain they...
I just did the same thing. While I was at the feed store, I found a few of the breeds Meyer's was sold out of, so I bought a few and just put them in with the rest of my chicks. They're now about three weeks old and everyone is doing great.
Yes, but they're over 6 months old. If the breed is the problem, I guess I could just butcher them out and get new hens from one of the poultry auctions.
I kept back 9 of my Cornish Rocks for egg laying, they just hit 6mos a week or so ago and finally started laying. Now all of a sudden they're becoming really aggressive, pecking each other, me and chasing me or anyone who walks outside. Finally decided to build a chicken tractor to keep them in...
Called Ideal today and they refunded me for the three I had lost, even though they were notified after their three day guarantee (which I didn't know about). So after that experience with their wonderful customer service, I will defiantly be ordering from them again in the future.
Hi! Bought a bunch of chicks two weeks ago, and need some help figuring out what breed they are.
Chick #1 (Got two of these little guys with my ducks, as "packing peanuts", about a week ago)
Chick #2
Chick #3 - Buff Orpington?
Same chick next to one of my white chicks...
