I don't think it is, she's not having any respritory distress. Everything I'm reading though makes it look not good. Basically anything that could be causing this is chronic or genetic with no cure. :(

I think my lavender amaurucana is sick. :( Her abdomen is swollen and tight, but soft. Kind of like a water balloon. I can't feel any egg in her, so I don't think it's egg binding. I gave her a warm water soak and she pooped a little, but her abdomen is still really swollen. Any ideas y'all?

I know! And Bacon too! What a crazy and terrible disease. We've been extra vigilant in checking the dogs and when we've been in the woods.

Have you checked Standard Feed n Seed off of I20? We've gotten some chicks there in the past and they order only pullets.

If you find out what's causing it, let me know! Mine all keep taking turns on who gets to be broody this month. :barnie

Where Do You Stand With Incubation?

I like to incubator hatch and then foster them onto a broody hen. I get the joy of watching the chicks hatch and then the hen helps them with integrating into the flock!

Oh, that sounds fantastic after a long day. I've never done a G&T with lacoix, but Death's door gin is my brand of choice and it goes well with grapefruit so I will have to give it a try! Congrats on the chicks! I expect to see LOTS of little tophat chick pictures!

I am loving the mild weather, but I'm hating all this rain! My poor birds' run is a mud pit! I would be a-OK to help process! I've been telling my darling fiance that I needed to learn how to process chickens and other birds so we can start doing it.

I did mine this past spring. It was really easy once they show you what to look for, and like others have said EVERYONE passes! No stress! Glad to hear the girls are settling in well! And already laying?! I'm surprised! I for sure thought they'd be too stressed and would 'hold it' for a couple...

I thought I would share some of the chicks that hatched with y'all! These are my "keepers", we're still thinking up names for most of them so suggestions are welcome! These two are 1/2 buff polish, 1/4 Brahma, 1/4 EE. Fingers crossed for big crests and colored eggs! This is from Lady Who's...

Not that I can tell yet, but I have my fingers crossed! And wouldn't you know it, this is the third time I've hatched eggs from you and all but one did hatch this time and STILL no NNs! I swear my darling fiance must have a hand in this somehow.... Oh well, maybe next year. :)

That is very close! I used to live down that way myself. I'm headed down that way tomorrow to drop some chicks off for someone. If you're interested I can bring the hens with. Send me a PM and we can chat. :)

I'm in Atlanta, basically across the highway from the old Braves baseball stadium Turner field. How about you?

@AfroChickens if you're open to other breeds, I have a pair of small Easter eggers that both recently started laying the most beautiful turquoise eggs. I don't remember their exact hatch date, but they're about 6 months old I think.

OK, I'll inspect the chicks thoroughly and make my best guess. What comb type do the moms have? I think both Marans and Legbar have straight combs, right? I'm up to 25 now and I didn't get to see most of them hatch! I have my work cut out for me here with figuring out parentage!

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

I came home to a total of EIGHTEEN chicks! That's a great percentage for my juryrigged little giant incubator, with still more pipped and peeping! @Lady Who the two tiny hen chicks Are adorable! It looks like the LO quit though. :( @Flowerbh any idea what a chick from the dark olive egg should...

The second egg had hatched before I left for work, too! The BO egg was infertile, but the LO made it to lock down! No pip yet, but it's still early! Before I left for work I was at 8 hatched and 15 pips!
