Wow, that’s so crazy. Did you keep her confined in a small space the whole time or let her stay with the other hens? I feel bad keeping her cooped up in that tiny cat crate.
No other symptoms. Just one lame leg. She’s active, alert and eats/drinks normally. Tries to do everything a normal chicken does just has no use of that leg.
She is approximately 5 months old. She just laid her first egg a few days ago. She has a good appetite and is alert. Breathing is clear. No respiratory distress. I used a permethrin dust to treat her. I’ve used it about once every 1.5 weeks rubbing it into her neck all around where the Poultry...
We have started treating with Nutrional Yeast, Rooster Booster, egg and Poultry Cell. One leg has curled toes and is mostly paralyzed. We’ve ruled out mareks. During treatment, do we need to keep her isolated in this tiny crate? I have a larger dog crate in the chicken run and am wondering if I...
What a relief. Thank you so much! I’ll continue keeping a close eye and add some vitamins to their water and colloidal silver as well. I’m always nervous when adding adult birds and try my hardest to never do it. Was unavoidable this round. Hopefully we won’t have to do it again anytime soon.
I recently integrated two flocks after a quarantine period of many weeks. After the first day one of the new girls had a foamy eye with swelling. I treated her with terramyacin and she recovered completely after 2 days. A couple days later an older (original flock) girl had what appeared to be a...
It’s pretty firm. About the size of a small okra seed. Would you make a hole for drainage then hopefully the terramyacin can access the pus or do I need to squeeze it out. I’m nervous to cut near her eye. 😳
Her eye was squinty when we adopted her about a week ago. I’ve been flushing it out with saline, using colloidal silver and a bit of terramyacin. Any idea what that yellow ball in her eye might be?
Here’s a picture from when we first started treating her eye a week ago. There was also some...
She is 4 months old eating and drinking normally. She has no respiratory distress symptoms. No discharge. I was able to get some solid white stuff out today. There appears to a bump/growth of some kind. Her other eye is perfectly normal. Thoughts? I tried rubbing gently with Vet RX and a bit of...
It’s so disappointing to have 3 out of 8 “pullets” end up being roos. Decimates almost half of my future backyard flock. 😔 Last order they sent four of the wrong breed though at least they were females. I’ll be ordering from a different hatchery from now on and no longer recommending Ideal to...
I was pretty frustrated when two out of four EEs ended up being boys. One was DOA so not sure if that one was also boy.To have a sex link Gold Star chick turn out to be a cockerel is shocking. I don’t understand what has happened to Ideal Poultry. This Gold Star is about 8 weeks old.
I’m so disappointed in my order this time around. Usually the orders from Ideal are amazing, but this time they shipped in an iffy box (really large holes during cold weather). One chick was dead on arrival and now two are likely boys. We will lose 3 out of 8 in our order, which is a big deal...
Can you guys confirm that Pepper here is a pullet?
I was told Fluffy is a cockerel. I assume with the red on the back chances are likely next to nothing he/she is a pullet. There’s also a bit of red in the tail.😭
Your hens are beautiful!
Oh no. I would be really sad if Pepper is a boy. We only have 3 EEs total so that would mean two would have to find new homes.😔
I love the Ideal Poultry EEs so much. Been buying them for over a decade. They usually always look like Pepper as far as coloring. They lay really well too. I think my next flock will be mostly IP EEs. 😅
It’s okay. I’m glad I will be mentally prepared now. Fluffy belonged to my oldest son. He is a bit heartbroken but he can choose another chick for his own. 😂
