Just got my first pip!!! This is my first time also and I'm hoping the other 7 will be coming around. I didn't think it would take this long after lockdown. I hope the water ports don't run out of water because I don't want to open it.
Good luck all.
OK thanks Pat. I have the Brinsea Eco and it's tiny. I thought as they hatched, dried off a bit I would pull them out. I will wait the 12-24 hrs you suggested.
Are you sure they won't try to skate? Maybe they'll be the missing link?
I love ice cream and hate steps...that equals trouble!

Too funny Harrelldjr. I only checked 3 times so I'm way behind you!
Being my first time hatching I'm hoping all goes well. When are they suppose to pip? I'd better start watching because the bator I have is small and I plan on pulling them out as it gets crowded. It's snowing here in...
Wow...I'm glad you posted ArizonaDesertChicks. I wasn't counting the first day when we set the eggs so I was a day off!! Sooooo lock down is tomorrow I'd better get a brooder ready. This is my first time hatching and I feel like an expecting mom. Guess I'll candle again tonight just to make...
I candled today too and I saw movement in all eggs. Using the Brinsea Eco with 8 eggs from my BR rooster-6 months old and pullets-RIR and Comets. It's a bit difficult seeing the veins in the darker eggs so I looked for the heart?.....black dot....and saw it moving in all the eggs. Yipeee!!
Pat...
I use a very bright LED flashlight, works great even for darkish brown and blue eggs. However my husband keeps stealing it for household use because it is such a great flashlight LOL

Thanks Pat for the light info. I did candle last night but all I saw were air sacs. The Comets lay brown...
Thanks for the sticky info. I forgot about reading that as I'm new to this site. GREAT pictures there.
The Brinsea holds the temps very steady. I had it running last night, empty, and right on at 100. I may candle at 3 days because I can't wait for 7!!
Hope your 2nd thermometer is accurate.
Count me in! This is my first time. I just got a Brinsea Eco. My Comet's egg are a bit large so I was only able to fit 8 in there ( suppose to hold 10.) A friend gave me her BR rooster so I wanted to give this a try.
I hope people will post what to do on what days. I guess we candle them in 3...
Here in NY I just got mine yesterday at Home Depot. Are you looking for the thin netting that goes over the top of the run? I just paid $19.99 for a 7' x 100' roll. It's called Deer Block protective mesh covering and it's in the GARDEN area.
For the sides I got a heavier plastic mesh that I use...
I have 2 RIR that are 8 weeks and 2 Comets that are 12 weeks old so I don't think they are broody!!
I do have a question. Is it normal to find feathers in the coop? I built an A-Frame tractor. There are 4 girls. The tractor has 4'x8' of grass area on the bottom and the same space above. I move...
PunkinPeep,
I am a newbie chicken owner and that is the BEST pictures of poop I have ever seen!! I had questions about a soft brownish poop and was giving the girls acidophilus thinking someone was "out of sorts." Now I see it's normal.
