I'm guessing partridge plymouth rock maybe? The partridge coloring is so pretty as they grow into a full feathering.
Edit: Wyandotte makes more sense with the body size. So Partridge Wyandotte perhapse?
Wow, how cute! If it's not a genetic deformity, then maybe it's a pure bred, buff araucana? I'm not familiar with too many tailless breeds, again, this is assuming it's not a genetic problem with this little one. Maybe someone else can chime in that has more knowledge or experience. Good...
It took a little longer to start this project than I wanted, but this past weekend the new coop finally started going up. With the help of my brother, we dove in and got a majority of the framing done for the coop itself. In another week I'll get the materials to finish the roof and exterior...
Thanks for the pics! That's exactly how my little pullet is looking. Her face just finally feathered out black about a week ago. They moved out of the brooder and are happily out in my temporary coop until my permanent one is finished.
You definitely have cockerels there. I'm not an expert, but I believe the top bird is one as well. The goldbar looking mixes are certainly roo's though, I'm sorry to say.
Thank you all, I'm really glad to hear this! I've actually been wanting one, assuming he/she is actually a girl. I hear they go broody quite often, and I'd love to have her try hatching some eggs some day. Would feather coloring start keying in on the sex at all yet? Or is it just the...
I'm not really sure to be honest, I'm not at home at the moment. This is the best pic that I have with me. You can't really see a comb for the most part, but I'll get a better picture when I get home. It's hidden really well behind all of the fluff. He/she is really spunky, one of our most...
This is a mystery chick that came with my order from MPC a little over a week ago. It has yellow feet, no feathering on the legs, and has the chipmunk coloring. It is very different from the light brown leghorn that I ordered, which is the only other chipmunk colored chick in my batch. Could...
Thanks for the feedback, now that I zoom in better I think I see where you're coming from. Lol, it might have been a whole lot easier if it wasn't all black!
For my own edification, why do you say this? I can't see the tail feathers very well, and that's one of the big one's for me. The feathering is also short, and the comb and wattles are about the same as on an adult laying hen. Not criticizing at all, just honestly trying to understand.
I'm not a pro, but nothing is screaming rooster to me yet. We may need a better side view of him/her standing upright, so we can see posture, tail and hackle feathers. For the moment I think it's a hen. The black feet are throwing me, but might be black australorp, gersey giant or a mix. Are...
That is a good idea actually! After some TLC from the dog damage, the old coop could definitely work as a short term quarantine house. I'd just want to make sure it's 100% predator proof this time. Luckily I was given three full size sheets of OSB for free, so maybe that's a subtle hint to...
You've been a great help, thank you so much! Wow, I failed on my napkin math. I'll be sure to make sure and do it right before I start shoveling dirt for posts. Thank you for the quick numbers!
Ah yeah, the picture helped a lot. My prefab had a hinged roof, and I think I'm going to raise...
That looks great! Pretty much what I had in my mind as well, although I think I'll be putting the actual house inside the pen also. It's off the ground, so my 4 hens will have full access beneath it. Trying some napkin math here, if I did an 18" rise on one side over an 8 foot run, that's...
Great advice everyone, thank you so much for the feedback! I really do appreciate it.
Looking at all the suggestions, I think I'll definitely hardware cloth an 8x8 (or larger) pen. I'm planning on making it a full walk-in pen, and probably use the metal corrugated roofing over most of it (or...
Hi everyone from SW Michigan! First, I’m sorry this is so long. I started writing it not realizing how many questions I would have. I’ve been doing a lot of reading here on BYC on this topic, and I have questions pertaining to my geographical area that I really need some more seasoned input...

Or can you frame an extension off of the back of the shed there, and fully enclose it for an outdoor pen? You could then keep the coop that you have now, maybe lift it off the ground, and they could at least sleep inside your existing structure at night.
