    Eggs left in water overnight

I'm not going to hatch them, but they are a group that I was planning to sell and don't want to sell a batch that is going to be bad for customers and ruin my reputation.

    Eggs left in water overnight

I was washing a batch of eggs last night and got distracted, then forgot about them. They have soaked in the water overnight now. Are they ruined?

Excel spreadsheet for tracking expenses and income from chickens

Thank you for doing this each year. It has been a real help to us. If I wanted to keep track of how many dozen eggs by size (small, med, lg,etc.) how would I go about adding that and keeping the over all dozen count accurate? I must admit, however, that I am not Excel competent at all.

Should I take these chicks now....or (impatiently) wait for Spring?

Who has chicks available this time of year in this area?

It says they are washing all 8 crates, but the picture clearly shows the boys are washing off all 8 crates with eggs still in them, with cold water no less.

Nope. Not in Australia. I'm in SW Missouri, in the Ozarks. I've seen the Taranaki FB page, but did not see the shot of the truss that you posted. Thanks. That is helpful. I do not need one as large as Salatin's. I currently have about 120 chickens, but am looking to expand to around 400-500...

    Mobile layer housing design search

I really like the nesting box, egg retrieval design of Daniel O'Brien's Chicken Caravan. The Caravans are made in Australia, and he has put a lot of thought into the design; and I think he has a great product. It's geared, however, towards the larger pastured egg producer (due to the expense)...

Salatin's isn't built on a chassis. He has it on some kind of skids. Unfortunately for me, I just don't have the requisite skills to figure out a design that would fit and hold together. I can, however, follow existing plans rather well. I kind of like the outside boxes, too, but I know that...

Yes, he says it is for added strength and extra roosting space. The roosts run the length of the house over each truss.

Hear his description of this starting around 4:28 in this video. The whole video is 29 minutes long, but he is done talking about this house by 11:15 in the video, so it's not so much that you have to wade through.

Is anyone aware of any construction plans for the newer Salatin-style egg mobile with the scissor trusses? I'm not good at coming up with such plans myself, but can follow them fairly well. I haven't had any luck with google searches so far, so I would appreciate being pointed in the direction...

    Turkeys and chickens together

I have lost nearly 90 chickens over the last three months, so about 1/day. In reading about protecting chickens from hawks and owls I saw several people mentioning that having a turkey would help keep them away. I have no experience with turkeys whatsoever, so I have some questions for those of...

Your experience - how effective is electric netting for free ranging during the day?

I have the 42" Premier1 netting. I didn't buy the Plus netting, but wish I had. I ended up buying extra poles to get rid of the sagging. I also bought the double-spiked version. It works very well for me. I haven't had any problems with ground predators, but do lose some now and then to hawks...

What is the ideal humidity for hatching in an incubator?

There's a small plug I could open. PD-Riverman is right that it is surface area that counts for humidity level. I had read that in the documentation for the incubator, but was concerned that after following their instructions, the humidity level was so high. I didn't know if just opening it a...

What is the ideal humidity for hatching in an incubator?

It's a built-in digital humidity meter. I am supposing that it is accurate.

What is the ideal humidity for hatching in an incubator?

I started my first hatch ever last night. I have a Hovabator Genesis 1588 with automatic turner. My question for right now is about whether I need to do something about the humidity. I filled the center trough as directed but my humidity is still showing at 63%. Do I need to open it up some to...
