I've heard good things about them, but they're a bit further. I also like not having to do the usual 25 chick minimum. I'm in suburbs so I'm only "allowed" 12. I could sneak in a few more..but not double lol Don't you just love it when they "allow" you to have something? I know what you mean, I...

Have you ever tried Murray McMurray? I have gotten chicks from them twice and they have been excellent both time. They have a nice website too. www.mcmurrayhatchery.com

Hi from Deep East Texas! We are over by Toledo Bend Reservoir. Really enjoy reading all the posts on BYC. A world of info here on a great venue. We are still working on our new coop and run. A bit of trim on the run and add the doors and all the outside will be close. Still need to finish the...

The new coop is a comin' along!

Will probably add a big chicken house fan that will pull lots of air through it in the hot days....

    automatic chicken doors in winter

We are in Texas but feel the Pullet Door, made down here in Lockart, Texas would do the job. It is very well built and is simple to install. If you added a vestibule around it so it would be protected from the weather, I am sure it would perform well for you and not freeze up. Take a look at...

The new coop is a comin' along!

We planned on doing the paint that way as it does work well. We have part of the trim on and all the other stuff on the outside pretty much done. It has rained every day and that sure speeds things up! We did the interior wiring and also installed the chicken door. I am really pleased with this...

Comment by 'Llamaranch' in article 'Matt's mobile chicken tractor.'

How hard is it to pull? Seems a set of wheels you could raise and lower would be in order unless I overlooked them. Looks really good! I have been thinking about using the wheels and lift mechanism from an old push mower when I get around to building a tractor...

    Bulk quail feeders?

I have Solway feeder that attaches to the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket. Haven't put it in service yet but looks like a good solution. They are British but there is a distributor stateside and they are really inexpensive, like $12 - $15 and the cost of a bucket. Search it on eBay...he also has...

HighTech Coop Project - Solar Auto pop door with LED coop light on timer

Great idea using the antenna! Makes a great linear actuator and it is small. Do you think over time time door will remain parallel in the ways it rides up and down in or is there enough clearance to keep it from jamming? It might make sense to lift from the top to minimize the possibility or...

The new coop is a comin' along!

And the saga continues....got a lot done today. Hope to get the metal roof on and the windows and door in tomorrow. Will finish the gable siding and get started on the priming/painting as well. I have some helpers tomorrow so it should go well....

The new coop is a comin' along!

Thanks for the good comments. I will add a run when we get it finished at least on the front and it's is painted. Otherwise it will be in the way...plan is 27' by 11'. I likely will add a tractor so they can see more of the area and maybe not make the run completely bald...open to thoughts and...

The new coop is a comin' along!

Baleigh and I decided to make a coop with plenty of room for our new flock and expand if we want. It has been a project but a lot of fun. Made lots of headway today. At a bit after 6am, my friend and I jumped on the coop with both feet. It was framed to roof rafter stage when we started and we...

    The brooder is ready!!!

It is for fifty chicks and is about 7 ft long ways....though it would work out just didn't want to crowd them...lamps had it a bit over 92 after 2 hours. What do you think?

    The brooder is ready!!!

Our brooder is ready!! We started by ordering a standard brooding kit, then we set up the fenced in area. After we took care of all of that we went our local feed store (but I'm sure walmart would do fine) and got pine shavings and laid it down inside about 1 inch thick everywhere. Baleigh and...

Hi all ...I am Bill and we are in Deep East TX about seven miles West of LA border. We have Llamas and Alpacas hence the Llamaranch alias.
