    What are the best hatcheries?

I cannot recommend Cackle Hatchery enough!! I don't think you will be disappointed with Cackle. My first order of 18 showed up today with 3 extras. All 21 babies arrived alive in 2 days. They are vigorous active babies. Within minutes of being placed in their brooder they were running between...

    What are the best hatcheries?

Cackle is the best. I have ordered from them for years and always have a successful delivery with usually zero losses. I always get healthy, vigorous birds that are eating and running around within a short time of being placed in their new brooder. I actually had an order ship out today from...

    Question About Zombie Chickens

I will try and remember to come back and share. There are at least 3 colors pictured, but sounds as if they could look like anything. I did get them for myself, but my husband and kids are really looking forward to them too!!

    Question About Zombie Chickens

Okay, so no one is talking about it yet, BUT Cackle apparently has "Crazy Cackle Zombie Chickens." I was putting in an order last night and almost missed them! They state they are not like the Ayam/Leghorn crosses others have used under the name Zombie, but Cackle birds include Ayam Cemani and...

    Scared to get chickens!

It certainly can seem that way. I agree with PP who said it may just seem you hear more negative because this is where the internet comes to troubleshoot their chicken problems. That skews the perception that there are more negatives than positives. Also, you really have to take it with a grain...

Incubating Lavender Ameraucanas Dry Hatch or No?

I have been considering doing that on a silkie or two! How long was your turnaround?

Incubating Lavender Ameraucanas Dry Hatch or No?

I had some in my hatch with the Black Split Ameraucanas and had the same thing happen. Of course the very first chick to hatch was an obnoxious OE. If he got carried away we would knock on the incubator and he would run immediately to where we tapped. Edited to Add: I haven't had chickens the...

Incubating Lavender Ameraucanas Dry Hatch or No?

You are very welcome! I hope it helps even the tiniest bit. I have learned so much from this site and if I can pass any of it along to help someone else I try. I hope the remaining 11 do well for you :fl:jumpy

Incubating Lavender Ameraucanas Dry Hatch or No?

Any type of probiotic or electolyte for chickens would be helpful. You can also do a DIY version. Today I had a weak Crevecoeur so I added some brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, salt, baking soda and a pinch of Rooster Booster (which is a probiotics and electolyte mix). I didn't really need the...

Incubating Lavender Ameraucanas Dry Hatch or No?

Used the hatchery box from my Speckled Sussex and Crevecoeur order this morning to transport my babies to the big brooder. We stopped for a picture on the way. Still only 8, but I'm so excited!! :ya The big brooder also has a few Welsummer and Olive eggers. Maybe I should post a photo of one of...

Incubating Lavender Ameraucanas Dry Hatch or No?

Thanks! I am holding out hope the last two will make an appearance before anyone comes out, but I will post pictures when they break free of their incubator jail! I wonder if the fertility in the Lavs could be reduced as well by those genes that affect feathers? It could certainly help explain...

Incubating Lavender Ameraucanas Dry Hatch or No?

Thought I would share an update! Apparently my temps ran hot, because everyone started hatching 1.5 days early! So far I have 8 of 10 Ameraucanas hatched. No signs of pips on the last two yet, and unfortunately I *think* from the shorthand, that one was actually a Lavender he slipped in so I am...

    Silkie thread!

The chick with white down is a splash. You got your 3 BBS; You have two blue, one splash, and the other two are your assorted colors. One is a buff, but I am not 100% on your black one with a brown spot.

Incubating Lavender Ameraucanas Dry Hatch or No?

This is my favorite thread for shipped egg info. I use this as a general guide. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/incubating-w-friends-w-sally-sunshine-shipped-eggs-no-problem.1046313/page-5385#post-16540512 With these specifically, I let them rest 12hrs on counter, placed in egg carton...

Incubating Lavender Ameraucanas Dry Hatch or No?

I hate to jinx myself by posting here, but :frow I purchased eggs from Paul Smith for his Black/Black Split Lav pen. I ordered 12 eggs, received 15, had 3 clears. I have 10 of 12 fertile eggs going into lockdown to hatch this Thursday. All of this said, I am still not counting my chickens before...

Turkeys for 4H-Best Hatchery and Breed

Definitely go with a Broad Breasted variety if your hope is to show them at your local fair. That is primarily what 4H members show as far as turkeys. That being said we have had great luck with Cackle Hatchery turkeys being very vigorous and growing well for us. We have bought them in the...

Are there any hatcheries to buy breeding stock?

Be very careful with auctions. Not only can birds be harboring disease or be sick without showing symptoms, but you won't know genetically what they carry either. A bird that looks Bronze can be carrying genes that would make it produce mixed bred offspring. Down here lots of people keep a Tom...

Tips on using old GQF 1250 Hatcher as an incubator??

I am reading so far that these can be used to incubate so long as you hand-turn. Is there any reason anyone knows of why I couldn't or shouldnt use it as an incubator? Obviously loss of heat in an incubator that big means more time for it to go back to normal, but anything else?
