Hi, I am in Rhode Island and looking for a good home for my young rooster. He is 12 weeks old. Sadly I can’t keep a rooster where I live. Please let me know if you are interested
Hello Rhode Islanders!! I am in Charlestown RI. It’s been a while since I posted. This year I decided to add 3 more Americanus to my flock. One of them turned out to be a beautiful silver gray rooster. He just started Cockadoodling today. Sadly I need to find him a home as I can’t keep a...
Thank you for your honesty and insight.
I still don’t know which hen this came from as all of them are seemingly healthy. I don’t believe in watching them suffer either and will not let that happen.
This is a picture of the lash egg cut open. It’s the strangest thing I have ever seen. All my hens seem to be acting normally and none have ever had a respiratory illness to my knowledge.
Ugg. That looks horrible. My poor chicken. I’m not sure which one it was. They are all between 2 and 6 years old.
Thank you so much for the article. Do you know if this is contagious?
Has anyone seen this before? When I checked for eggs yesterday I found this along with the eggs. Feels like egg shell material but has a little chalkiness to it. I have not cut it open. It feels more solid than an egg you would crack.
Once they start laying they calm down a lot. My mature girls love dried meal worms as a special treat. Of course they get lots of yummy snacks but I use the meal worms when I need to get them to go back to their run after free ranging.
Hi everyone,
Being from RI my husband does a bit of fishing. When he filets the fish I always want to cook up the carcass and give it to the girls. Great protein!! But we are concerned about the bones. Have any of you ever tried this?
Thanks for your input.

Thank you all for this information!! Hugely helpful. I have 6 adult laying hens and three 13 week old girls that I just integrated into the flock. I was wondering what to do about grower and layer feeds. Now I know. Thanks everyone!!
Hello from Charlestown RI!!
We have a small flock of 6 Barred Rocks all a year old.
We just hatched out 5 chicks six weeks ago. 2 Buff Orpington hens, 1 BO Roo, 1 Red Cuckoo Orpington hen and a Red Orpington Roo.
Unfortunately I can't keep the Roos and will need to find a good home for them...
We just hatched 3 buff orpingtons Caroline, Sun and Edith( the fathers name is Edward and one of the moms is Caroline) and 2 red or red cuckoo orpingtons named Paradise and Scarlet
I have six Plymouth Barred Rocks. It's hard to tell them apart so for a while I called them by number in whatever order they came running in. Chicken Six is still a serious straggler when I call them. "come on six, here six"
Now a year later they are:
Blacky
Oreo
Scardy Chick
And Rooah, She...
