I just finished catching up on about 10 pages of this thread... I got super behind since my boys are now out of school and life has become pure insanity.

The chicks did so well their first night outside. They didn't sleep in the coop, but I figured they'll get the hang of it soon enough. We pushed the pen we were using to hold them up against the door of the run that is attached to the coop to make a bigger run. The box that came with this coop...
I'm thinking this one might be a "he". Lots of assertive behavior and when my dog sniffs around, he holds his head up high and sounds the alarm. There is another in the bunch that regularly postures with him, but I haven't seen anything super aggressive in any of mine.

Moving our six weeks olds into their coop this weekend! I don't think it's supposed to get below 55 any night soon. Would it be a good idea to put a heat lamp in the coop at night? I'll post pics later!
Ok. So we started looking at all the wood we have collected and it's not nearly enough to have the coop we want. Soooo... We went to TSC and bought a small coop with an attached run to get us through until we can collect/barter for/buy more. And then we all went for a hike and had icees to cool...

I am so sorry and sad for you. I can tell just by reading your posts these past couple of weeks that you really enjoyed your flock. I hope that you manage to find some peace.

They still hate being held... I suppose you can tell by the motion blur. This little thing was freaking out. I think they are becoming more and more comfortable with me. I have been feeding them yogurt mixed with oatmeal. I think they associate me with food!
A fantastic name indeed! I wish I could have come up with at least one clever name for ours. But my boys named them, so alas...

Thank you both so much! We plan to have a large run and then allow them to free-range for a few hours each day while we are home.
Do you all use the deep litter method? Or something else? I think once I make that decision, I can decide if I want a walk-in coop.
