    Swedish ducks

Good luck with your Swedish ducks. I love my Swedish ducks they have a good personality. They don't lay tons of eggs but they lay a large high quality egg. This weekend they had their first real snowfall.

can you tell it's Golden 300 or Rouen duck?

The ducks are hybrid layers and the offspring will not be as standard as a true breed. I believe you are seeing that. Perhaps the parents were larger bodied than the previous batch and carried a different trait. Mine are definitely on the medium body side though.

    Duck Math???? New coop opinions?

No this will be our first. I'm going to fabricate panels to cover the mesh next week. To retain some heat and reduce any drafts for cold months.

    Duck Math???? New coop opinions?

Just for more perspective, this is a 4'x8' duck house and the front is 5' tall and the rear is 3' tall. I figured it could be reused as a dog or goat shelter if I stop keeping ducks. It's light enough to move with a heavy duty hand truck by myself. I can also turn it on it's side and...

    Can we see everyone's Waterfowl

Well, yes. I try to source as much of my meat as possible from local humane sources. Tonight, we had grass fed beef from just down the road. And I really enjoy domestic duck meat. So we are gonna give raising some for the freezer a try. The layer ducks we are keeping for egg production, and...

    Duck Math???? New coop opinions?

This is what I came up with. I wanted kennel flooring so I could hose it out for speed cleaning. In warm weather it is open with just the kennel flooring getting hosed down regularly. When it gets cold, I will add bedding to the floor and panels to the mesh to keep out drafts. So it's...

    Swedish ducks

I have 2 Swedish males and 4 females. The males are bigger and quieter. The offspring will be 1/2 blue, 1/4 black, and 1/4 silver. They are supposed to be a dual purpose breed. I just ordered 10 giant pekins from Metzer's and they sent 11. All of them are doing great. I couldn't be...

Heavy Chicken Tractor - Wheel Design

I'm using 10" never flat Tractor Supply wheels bolted into a 4x4 post. I built my chicken tractor to be light enough for one strong person to move by hand.

How long does it take YOU to clean your coop?

My "coop" moves every day but I clean the litter out of the tractor every 2 weeks. It takes about 20 minutes to do this. I'm new to all this so I'm still learning what all is involved. Once I have a fence around my 3 acres I think I will build a real coop and let the birds free range all day.

    Controlling Bees

Carpenter Bees are the big black ones. Our Carpenter Bees are almost becoming like pets lol. They are territorial so u see the same ones in the same parts of the yard every day.. The females can sting, but u would almost have to grab one to upset it. They are very aggressive against the...

Diatomaceous Earth sprinkled around the ant nesting area. Also won't hurt in the coop itself.
