Cant hurt to try! Don't put any cracked ones in there and then follow the rules of incubating guinea eggs you find by googling. They are pretty resilient so you might get lucky. :D Let us know!
How many of your free roaming guineas have hatched natural eggs? This is my fourth hatch this year! LOL They are currently sitting on 15 or 16 eggs. I'm very hopeful they turn out as I recently had to leave the birds with no dog to protect them and I lost 2.
put a light in it even a night light. My guineas HATE the dark. And yes make sure they have nice high roosts. I"ll bet ya a light will fix it though if you don't have one. If you DO well then, have they gone in it at all? Maybe a trail of treats?
Very cool! :D
You may consider scooping up the baby however. I've had two different "couples" have natural keets this summer. THREE batches. One batch of 15 we left three with the parents and they got killed after mom decided following them around was no fun. She completely started...
i've raised a couple batches as keets now and they stick around. I live on about 1.3 acres then have farm ground around me. I keep them in a coop with a run for about 2 months. then I let them out for a couple hours, chase them back in etc. Eventually they get to where they will kind of do...
Hi TwoPine, sorry to hear about your bird. Most of what I've read suggest they will not sit on them but results definitely vary. I know that I had a clutch I removed a couple eggs from a couple of times but left several and they abandoned the whole lot. That said, they probably aren't going...
Hi hutchel I'm sure someone with more knowledge than I will come along but i've had guineas two years now and they hatched keets outside this year and another hen is sittinng on some that ought to be done any day now.
When I was reading about bringing the eggs in most people seemed to agree...
So I was down to 5 guineas and thinking about ordering some more. I hadn't seen any eggs for quite awhile (they free range all day and coop at night) and I knew they probably had an egg clutch somewhere but I hadn't found it so far or really given it too much thought (still knew to this)...
Well one keet hatched yesterday morning. He surprised me so I didn't have the paper towel in just yet. I was pretty positive the others had died so I went ahead and opened the lid and snuck it in there.
So he surprised me and piped early, i was so excited i didn't get the paper towel in there (round brinsea incubator) he wants to stand up REALLY bad but obviously its slick. Just let him feather out anyway or it hurt itself? There are four other eggs still in there and the keet is still...
Assuming it makes it we are looking at 1 out of 8 from our own first year guinea eggs. Yesterday there was a little crack and today so far the keet has worked it into a plus sign. Lots of wiggling going on!
3 out of how many again? :(
Boy you are done already? I woke up to a plus sign crack with one piece just about free. The keet is wiggling away! Hope it makes it.
There is one making some noise. Tonight is lock down at 10 pm. The rest appear to be doing nothing. They appear to have developed some and quit. They aren't weeping or anything so I'll leave them for now.
