I will say that they are Austra Whites. The reason, is one of my TJ hens has black or rather dark feet and beak. And now, some of their offspring have dark feet and beaks. California whites have yellow feet and beaks and obviously White Leghorn
have yellow feet and beaks.
Here is an update pic of the Trader Joes Offspring (and TJ x Redstar offspring)
The dark gray and the two browns are 100% for the TJ rooster x Redstar hens. The one very light gray one is 100% TJ rooster x TJ hens (miracle chick) and the white/white with black fleck are mix of Tj x rooster...
Hi All,
I have raised 4 broad breasted white turkeys since July and I need to process them to be fresh for TG. Two are Toms and two are Jerry’s? (what’s a female turkey called?) Obviously, I’ve never had turkeys LOL!!!
I’ve processed meat chickens before and I know you need to let them...
Cool! My reds aremthe sale age as my TJ, but I have one red that produces a double every teek or so and another that produces a fart egg every week or so. However the TJ eggs are always consistant, thats what I love about these production layers! :)
Sorry for such a late response I'm traveling again Im currently in tennessee. I'm not the best at sexing chickens. I gave away all my roosters to even out my flock (4white hens and 4 red hens) and three weeks later I find out one of the hens becomes a rooster. :/
the only true way to find out...
Update:
They grow up so fast!
They seem to be the quietest chicks I've ever had, so mellow. (Offspring of Trader Joes Hatch from March)
I tried to relocate boodzilla and eggs to a bin on the ground as the nesting box she is in is 4' off the ground and the chicks will not make the jump...

Original hatch. Amazing how white the eggs are, the offspring eggs are quite tan.
Ok First,.. Broodzilla
Then the mix TJ Rooster and Redstar Hens.
2 Mostly red/orange
2 white with red highlights
1 Grey with red face and red highlights on back
and finally the Pure TJ Rooster x TJ Hens
1 Pure Grey
2 Pure White
3 White with black fleck (like parents)
We are up to 11 chicks. Im pretty terrible at hatching eggs, its day 23 so Im thinking about pulling the plug on the incubator.
On a side note, i went to gather eggs on Saturday and found a TJ hen got all broody on them so I left her to see if she has a better hatch rate. Cant wait to see...
Interesting outcome of the offspring of the TJ chickens. One pure white and one dark gray. The tj roo and redstar egg produced a white chick with black flecks like the roo. More hatching now...
I have experienced the same problem. One store has eggs that never produce, and another an hour away will have viable eggs. Not sure what happens behind the scenes.
Has anyone incubated the eggs of their Trader Joe offspring?
I set 42 eggs in the incubator a week ago. The rooster and half the hens are from my tj hatch. Im wondering what will hatch since it looks like the Austra white line.
Do you think I will get a few pure black and a few pure whites?
So my hens started laying last week. Its very strange that my original tj eggs were very white. The hens are laying slightly tan eggs. Someone else posted on here that the white with flecks of black can also be Austra whites. With the color of the eggs Im leaning more towards this mix...
