Thanks for the link. So it looks like from the description and pics that the mask around the eye is thick and dark on the males and thin on the females, is that what I am understanding? If that were the case, then it looks like the 5 Snowflakes are hens and the Tennessee Red is a Roo. They...
Hello,
I purchased a dozen "Snowflake" Bobwhite eggs and 6 of them hatched. 5 ended up being Snowflakes and 1 I am told is a Tennessee Red. My question is that I am not sure how to tell the sex visually on Bobwhites. I have only dealt with Coturnix before so this is a new avenue for me. I...

I do the same thing and sharpie the correction right on the thermometer - done. I keep 2 inside each incubator in addition to the digital one that is built in to the Genesis.
I have 3 Genesis incubators and love them. In addition to the digital thermometer, I also have 2 thermometers inside the incubators as well. No problems so far...
Not all quail start laying at 8 weeks, some are a little less and some are more, but in any case, they will need to have 14+ hours of light per day in order to lay.
For any of you new folks that are wondering what the male "crowing" sound actually sounds like, I was finally able to catch one of my Texas A&M Coturnix males doing it on camera. It took forever to finally catch him. He would mess with me and only do it when i was walking away from his cage...
I am feeding the Dumor 24% game bird feed from Tractor Supply. The baby chicks I have now I am starting on Purina Startena 30% and then I will switch them to the Dumor 24% at around 5-6 weeks.
I am going to eat the first few weeks then save for incubating when it is more consistent. Most of my males are crowing like crazy so that is a good sign as well.
I am pretty excited... I got my first egg today laid by one of the 20 hens I have. They are 8 weeks and 2 days old today. Hopefully the other 19 follow suit very soon!!!
I have been fortunate enough to talk to Robby a few times. A few weeks ago I wanted to order some eggs and I had to leave a message for him, and he DID call me back, at 9:15pm EST. He had been working since 4:30am but still wanted to return my call. He then proceeded to talk to me for an hour...
Well I have had no new hatches in the past 12+ hours so it looks like I may settle out at 15 out of 38. Not a great hatch rate in my opinion. Last time I hatched Vail's Quails, I got a 67% hatch rate. I am only look at just over 39% with this batch. I will still give it another day or so for...
I'm right there with you. Starting day 18 and only 14 of 38 have hatched so far and I'm not seeing much movement in there. I'll give it another couple days and see. I have another incubator full that is scheduled to hatch this Friday.
Good luck on your hatch as well! I am up to 12 hatched now, 9 of them are already in the brooder - 4 A&M, 3 Jumbo Brown, 1 Golden Speckled, and 1 Tibetan (maybe?). Just hatched and still in the 'bator are 2 more A&M and 1 more Golden Speckled. Just waiting on the others....
