Wow thank you everyone for the great replies! I've learned quite a bit! Last night I bathe my goslings in the sink and blow dried them on low. :D
The temperature here is around 60 degrees in the daytime.
I have sebastopol goslings. :) They are getting a bit dirty thanks to their food and now their neck feathers need cleaning (and there heads lol) I was making sure it was okay to put them in shallow water. I don't want them to drown! I'm guessing it won't be safe for the to swim in the pond until...
Thank you! I pulled up some grass from outside and gave it to all of them. They LOVE it. I'll buy some leaf lettuce as well. I hope your gosling pulls through. :( It's really sad when they die.
Thank you for the reply. It doesn't make me happy (I can't bring back the poor baby T_T). At least I didn't do anything wrong durning incubation. I just don't want anyone else to die. I spend hours crying over the poor thing.
I'm feeding them...
I bought sebastopol geese eggs from ebay. Twelve. In the end seven hatched and I was very happy. I decided that I would keep two as pets and sell the other five here on BYC. Everything was going well, although I noticed one of the chicks didn't chirp constantly like the others. From the moment...
Hi! Welcome to BYC! It's nice to meet you!
This is a great place and you will love it here. I love geese and if I had ducks I'm sure I'd love them too. :D I just hatched 7 out of 12 goose eggs a few days ago. They are bundles of joy!
Hi!
Welcome to BYC! This is a great place and I'm sure you will enjoy your (long) stay here! I'm new myself but if it hadn't been for this site I would have never been able to hatch my goslings successfully.
Thank you very much! I just checked and the starter isn't medicated. I was worried I was killing them without even knowing it. Sorry about your goslings. :(
This was very informative. Thank you.
I do have a question though. Chicken starter feed is not good for goose babies? I've had my geese for two days now (they just hatched) and I bought chicken starter feed from tractor supply. Is this going to hurt them?
Welcome!
How lucky! To have all that land! Now you can fill it up with chickens, and maybe ducks... and some geese and perhaps a pig and a cow... and a pony...
Well that is what I would do if I ever got my hands on a 5 acres of land!
You've come to the right page for information. Have fun...
Hello! Welcome to BYC!
You have a lot of animals! I'm the same so I understand. (geese, cats, dogs, snake, rats, ferrets... this list will soon include chickens!)
This place is really helpful. You can find everything you need to know from hatching eggs to raising chicks. Enjoy your (long)...
Welcome to BYC!
Please do post pictures! I love seeing chicks! This is the best place to get all the information you need. It's certainly helped me out a lot so enjoy your (long) stay here!
Welcome to BYC! I'm very excited for you! I was just at Tractor Supply yesterday to buy bird feed for my geese. There were a ton of chicks there for sale and I was pretty tempted to buy a few. Only I haven't set up my coop yet!
Good luck with your chickens!
Welcome to the forum!
I'm sorry about your old flock. D= I am planning to raise chickens for eggs and meat this summer (and hopefully beyond) and I was worried about predators too. Thankfully we don't have foxes here.
I don't think we do at least...
I wish I had some suggestions on how...
O_O
How cruel. Why would someone dump them just because they grow up? D= I don't want to see them with someone who may abandon them! That's just terrible.
It reminds me of Harry Potter and the owls. I heard that people bought owls as pets thanks to the movie and didn't do research on owls...
Thank you!
They are just too adorable to ignore! Then they follow me around and then chirp super loud when I walk away. They want to sit in my lap and sleep. They like to eat EVERYTHING and I feel like I'm chasing after two year old. Overall this is a wonderful experience. I can wait to start...
I have 7 sebastopol goose. Only keeping two of them though! They just hatched two days ago. The two I'm keeping have already imprinted on me. They are so cute!
Later this summer I want to raise chickens for eggs and meat. I have to get my coop together before I can do this though!
