    Pond weed for hens?

Hello, We have recently moved house and now have an unused pond, it doesn't have a pump and there is what i believe to be pond weed growing in it. Does anyone know if it is safe to let the chicken have it? either fresh to eat or dried to play with? thanks

Hi there, We have been keeping chook for many years, but this year have encountered two new symptoms. One of our hens 4 years old has always had a big butt, this year however she is almost tripping over her undercarriage, originally i thought she must be egg bound, but she continues to appear...

thanks will do, being the only one i can't tell quite how small s/he'll be but the normal sized chicks are already about the same size as the bantam hens at nearly 8 weeks! So think they may be the best bet for forming an alliance!

Help! Baby chick with mama hen and a sore head is is it safe what should i do?

Hi, she gets louder and stressy when I move the chick and didn't let it go on its own as soon as I put it down she was covering it to keep it warm and protect it I presume. She's gentle by nature normally and hasn't really fussed when moving her and chick but we didn't keep them apart but from...

thank you, i think it looks like an injury, maybe the mama picked it up by it's head a bit roughly, it certainly hatched with a fine head of fluff.

Help! Baby chick with mama hen and a sore head is is it safe what should i do?

Hi, thanks for replying, it's really sore looking and quite big, but mama immediately tucked it back under her as soon as i put the chick into the fresh coop and popped her in after, there was no messing about just plonked herself on the chick and readjusted herself around it. Neither mama nor...

Help! Baby chick with mama hen and a sore head is is it safe what should i do?

Hi, Our broody hen unexpectedly hatched her egg yesterday afternoon, when chicky first appeared from under mama she went for it but once it went back under we could hear it cheeping and hoped all was ok. Mama hen moved off the remaining egg into a different part of the coop with chicky and...

Update: unfortunately Elton ( who was super cuddly) died last week:( came home to find her covered in blood, with a puncture wound on her knee, we did the best we could but i think the shock and blood loss killed her in the end. Beaky Flintoff Denny Elton and lastly Chandler... Any guesses as to pullet or too? I keep changing my mind. Both Elton and Chandler had some feathers pecked from their pompoms when they were tiny so are a bit thin on top, not sure if that'll make any difference to being able to tell though...
