I put a drain in the pool. But that wasn't sufficient. So I have since raised the pool so it can be easily taken out and rinsed. Then I just put it back in and plug the drain and refill. It still has the original pool from 6 years ago....but I have one in reserve for an emergency.
So this evening I took the mother out of her pen and introduced the duckling to her while staying close. The mom was very indifferent and paid very little attention. She didn't seem to mind the duckling climbing on her feet and on her back and the duckling seem to preen the mom. After about...
Just when I thought I was handling this with some confidence. There are no local ducklings available to get it a companion. I am going to try to introduce it to the mother this evening and see how that goes. The little one seems to be doing very well eating, drinking, sleeping, and now...
Update: Our little one seems to be doing great. Noisy, eating, drinking and trying to walk. The umbilical cord disconnected overnight and thankfully I work for an amazing company who allowed me to bring him to work today so I could keep a close eye on him. First picture is moments after...
So...our saga continues. Recently I noticed that Tina (the female) had decided to sit on 5 eggs. So after a few days (May 14 to be exact) I candled them and they appeared to be fertilized. So I let her sit. We never had intended on having ducklings. All the eggs progressed through the month...
Hello all. Very long time no post. We've had our ducks 6 years this past Easter. They have been extremely healthy and have been a pleasure to have. The female's colors have changed and during nice weather she gives us an egg a day. They have enjoyed their duck pen.
If FILTER was the key word in your question, I am interested in the answer as well. Our two can dirty up their pool pretty quickly any more. So I am looking into this as well, if I come up with an idea I will certainly share it here.
Thank you, we think so too...
Well if they do end up runners that would be GREAT, as, since being on this site and doing research for the ducklings, we were contemplating getting a couple of runners....along with the required extra holes in our heads...
Thanks for the input, hope to hear...
....or possibly a mix?
Is there a sure fire way of telling what our ducklings are? They are about 7 weeks old, black feathers are really coming in nicely (their chest feathers are softer than I couldve ever imagined), they seem very healthy, love the new pen and pool. They both seem to have...
Well, still a few bugs to work out.....not real happy with how the kiddie pool sits in its space, and will be adding some fall to the roof panels for drainage. But, here is our lil ducks in their new pen, first day and night on their own....I dont think I was this nervous with our children...
Probably getting tired of seeing ours, but here they are again....
Ike and Tina, and we are thinking they are going on about 3-4 weeks old..
We like car racing, seems they may also, looks like they are leaning into the turn...
One week in the books with us, and boy they sure grow fast!!!!
Tina, the little one (as we hope she is in fact a she) is starting to make some weird half quacking noises, and Ike, the big one has the legs of an Olympic swimmer!!
They have doubled in height, We certainly didnt expect that...
PS, just read in another thread that if the medication is Amprolium, then it is fine (What do ducks eat, thread, post #9 by Speceider)
That is the medication in our feed...
....but still panicking just a bit, if we have done any harm.
Will be looking for duck specific food tomorrow.
